Default ecuflash being difficult

im having trouble with ecuflash reconnizing the moddified rom from romraider. i have updated romraider, ecuflash, java, and all the def. files. i started out by reflashing my ecu with a different ecu id so i could use the experimental def. to tune that worked fine then i open the rom in romraider editor and made a couple of changes and saved that rom under another name. then i have to but this file into a hex converter so i can open it in ecuflash but when i try to open it it says the def is not found. also i cant edit it wit ecuflash either cuz the only metadata that comes up is ecu info. idk if anyone has had this problem before but its driving me nuts driving to figure it out so any help would be apperciated.
