Default All-Season Performance tires 225/50-17 or 235/50-17

Looking for All-Season Performance tires 225/50-17 or 235/50-17

TireRack has only the following option:

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S - expensive
Bridgestone Potenza RE92 - had them before, they suck
Goodyear Eagle RS-A - low rating
and several Grand Touring tires with low rating also.

What is this??? Does it mean that everybody who switched to 17" pay fortune for their tires buying Michelin Pilot Sport ???

People having 17" wheels! Need your input a lot!!!

Thanks.

Are you sure that is the size you must have....it would seem to limit your choices...

I have FXT with stock suspension and planning to buy Rota SDR's 17". The stock tire size is 215/60-16. Do you think I have other choices to be as close to the stock diameter?

And/or a wider wheel.....a 17x8 would be a better choice...

235/45/17 is a not an ideal choice, being over 3% smaller than stock. 235/50/17 is the closest to stock, 225 is close as well.

I was under the impression that 8" wide wheels at acceptable offsets would be a tough fit on Foresters?

Under 5% difference you will never notice....nothing is 'ideal'.

235/50/17 is a much better fit. So close, that it's virtually the same size. I'd say that's ideal.

I'd go with 235 but concerning about rubbing issues ... any experience with this size?

In 225/50 & 235/50 R17, revs per mile:

215/60 R16 - 774 - RE92

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S - 795 & 777 and 235/45R17 - 811
Bridgestone Potenza RE92 - 804 & NA(data, that is)
Goodyear Eagle RS-A - 807 & 797

Need to check out revs pe rmile in the specs section to see how individual tires match up to original rubber. Are the stockers RE-92s?

There isn't much there for all season in that range, and nothing on the truck side for all season.

How about Pirelli P-6 225/45R17? 776 revs per mile.

235-40-17 is the closest size to stock height that you will get on a WRX.

I run them on my 99 RS with no rubbing issues and several of my customers have them on their WRX with the same result. If you check Tirerack they have the tire revolutions listed for the different tire sizes. That sould help you with a size choice.

I take the 235/50/17 would cause some rubbing issues then?
Just wondering.

Your comment makes no sense. Do you have experience with this size rubbing?

how does my comment make no sense? how would a tire size be ideal if it rubs?

i have no experience with this tire size rubbing thats why i put "if" in front of my question. the overall diameter of this tire size is a little larger than stock size, with the wider rims/tires and a lower offset, i assume they'll rub.
