Default Rendered Speculation: Cadillac CTS Coupe and Wagon

Rendered Speculation: Cadillac CTS Coupe and Wagon

Reported almost one year ago by Automotive news (subs. req.) and gaining traction once again, Cadillac is expanding the CTS range with coupe and wagon variants set to debut in 2009 as 2010 models. Disappointing CTS and BLS sedan sales in Europe have given GM incentive to consider additional variants in an effort to emulate BMW's 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class ranges. Additionally, wagons are more appealing to Europeans and could help jump start the brand.
Spy sources are whispering that a CTS wagon concept could debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this coming January and then making a European debut in Geneva. Public reaction in Geneva as well as demand of the Cadillac BLS wagon which is just beginning sales now will be critical in GM making a decision in giving the green light to production.
Obviously, no prototypes have been spotted yet, however, these photos which have been digitally edited show how they might look like.

:thumbs up: on both these variants.
The new CTS is a great platform for both a coupe and wagon.

I just truly hope that Cadillac sticks with it in Europe... they are selling horribly right now, but the worst thing they could do is just to give up - that's one of the reasons that they sell so poorly now there, few people know about them and those that do, have an image of the land-yachts that they used to build back in the day.

The coupe looks a little odd thenof course it's a pchop. I'd like to see a convertible version. That might be interesting.

The top of the C pillar and how it then flows down the trunk lid. The execution is terrible. This design language doesn't work with coupes, IMO.

For Caddy to succeed in europe, they need a smaller than CTS car (not the badge engineered BLS).

You mean the design language conceived in some geek with photoshop's mind at worldcarfans?

OOOooookay.

Anyhoo, I think a coupe and wagon CTS would be cool. I'd totally be down for a CTS-V wagon.

The person that photoshopped the car didn't come up w/ the CTS design language. He simply chopped the C pillar and trunklid area while lengthening the doors.

Do you not understand what "design language" means? The shape and lines of the front of the car that extend back across the cabin don't match a coupe, IMO. It needs the rear doors there to break up the long, straight lines of the car. It is the same reason I don't think that a Legacy coupe works. They both look awkward.

Default Spied 2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe

Quote:
Spies caught our first glimpse of the production Cadillac CTS Coupe through the trees of its secret holding pen. With these first-ever front-3/4 and profile shots of a real-world CTS coupe prototype, we can now assess the changes Cadillac designers have made to translate the striking Detroit concept into a production vehicle.

Thankfully, it appears that the majority of the CTS Coupe concept's lines have been faithfully duplicated on this production model. Some feared that the concept's radical fastback design might be watered down, revealing the Coupe's sedan roots, but our profile view proves these fears as unfounded. It appears that the production version may have a slightly more pronounced rear deck, but if that's so, it's not enough to significantly alter the concept's silhouette.

The CTS coupe prototype retains a remarkably flat backlight.
The CTS Coupe prototype further separates itself from its sedan donor thanks to the elimination of a conventional door handle, adopting instead the concept's Corvette-style design which hides the door trigger behind the door's aft cut-line.

The concept and production similarities continue with the Coupe's revised lower side sill, and the distinctively sculpted waistline, which begins at the A-pillar/fender vent, and narrows as it stretches rearward. The camouflage hides whether or not the line terminates into the concept's razor-sharp point at the C-pillar, but it looks likely that that's another design convergence between the show- and production cars. Earlier photos also confirmed that the concept's bold central exhaust will also reach showrooms.

There are some visible differences between the Detroit Show Standout and the production model. Cost and feasibility studies have killed the concept's glass-to-glass side windows, in favor of a visible B-pillar on the production model. The rest of the changes are found in front of the A-pillar. The concept coupe's large, CTS-V-style hood bulge is gone on this prototype (although we'd love to see it return on a future full-blow CTS-V coupe).

And the show car's reshaped front fenders–which sweep more voluptuously to a revised front bumper, tweaked front ground-effects, and more dynamic headlight and fog-light clusters–appear to have been replaced with stock items from the CTS sedan. It looks to us like the CTS Coupe and sedan will share identical front fenders and front fascia designs.

From there, back, however, the cars could scarcely be more different. The drama of the CTS Coupe concept is alive and well, and on its way to Cadillac showrooms.

A CTS wagon.... Where do I sign???

This is a great idea that will never work because Caddy owners don't want anything to do with wagons, they just buy Escalades

Except that a CTS wagon would get a hell of a higher MPG than any Escalade (and be cheaper), so that would help GM's overall CAFE. And it might stop a few customers from defecting to the Germans when looking for a fast, luxurious wagon
... hell, look at the profile of that CTS coupe - the way that back end is all angled up and all, they are 1/2 way to having a wagon already.

That rear end looks like it took styling cues from Lamborghini, I'm liking the way GM is heading.

I think the styling will be halfway between the concept and the rendering shown.

By the way, doesn't the rendering look like an Accord coupe circa 2001?

Default Cadillac working on 500hp CTS-V Coupe?

Quote:

We already know that GM will be putting the show-stopper CT Coupe Concept into production in 2009 as a 2010 model year. The production model won’t be too far off from the concept we saw in Detroit, but will be a little toned down to meet production standards. Basically on the production model, all the metal ahead of the A-pillar will be identical to the CTS sedan.

Engine spec wise, we were told that the Cadillac CT Coupe Concept was designed to accommodate a range of engines including Cadillac’s popular 3.6L Direct Injection V6 and the new 2.9L turbo-diesel currently in development. The car is currently under development under the code-name GMX226 and will be rolling down the assembly line at GM’s Lansing Grand River plant in 2009.

Well now new speculation on the street is that Cadillac is looking to fit the 500 horsepower producing 6.2L LSA supercharged V8 engine from the new CTS-V into the production coupe as well.
We think it’ll be the perfect competitor for the BMW M3 Coupe

Default Cadillac CTS-V Promo Video

Quote:
The 2009 Cadillac CTS-V is set to hit showrooms this autumn, and GM has decided to release the first promotional video for this performance sedan. This car competes against the German performance sedans such as BMW M5, Mercedes E63 AMG, and Audi RS6 by packing a 6.2 liter super-charged V8 that produces over 550 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. Sounds very impressive, but we have never seen it in action until now.

The two-minute video boasts some of the best virtues of the CTS-V such as the Gen-6 Eaton Supercharger, Brembo 6-piston brakes, dual-mode Magnetic Ride Control, Tremec 6-speed auto or 6-speed manual transmission, and many more.

Featuring an Americanized bass-heavy soundtrack, we get to see some good exterior perspectives of the car with plenty of hot driving scenes. On the whole, GM’s marketing team has done a relatively convincing job this time around.
