Default Votes on summers big cruise?

Chano and myself were discussing in his thread on perhaps switching up the big meet/cruise this year. Would anyone be against or for switching it up to a different location? Any ideas would be taken into consideration! I'm really just hoping for the best turn out possible. Let me know what you all would have in mind, and who would be willing to go where.

I've gone to anchor point the last few years for halibut fishing but never actually stopped in Homer, is there a particularly good restaurant there?

There are a few good restaurants there. When I was in homer over the 4th I ate at one right on the spit. Food was excellent, a little pricey but excellent.

Starvin Marvin's Pizza! And they have other things there, too. Love that place.

Also the restaurant at the end of the spit isn't bad, either.

Lots of great places to eat in Homer….but starvin marvin's ain't one of them.

Several good restaurants on the spit.

Captain Patty's-great seafood but pricey…and a smaller place…so accommodating a large group would be tough.

Land's End…in the hotel at the end of the strip…again pricey…but perfect for a large group.

El Pescador-newer place…not bad…but didn't knock my socks off either.

the Infamous Salty Dawg for those who want to visit a landmark Alaska wet your whistle joint.

Lots of places off the spit too.
Duncan House diner for breakfast is great as is the Two Sisters bakery.
Cosmic kitchen and Cafe cups are great too.
Fat Olives is Homer's equivalent of the Moose's tooth. Nice place. Great food.

There is a decent mexican restaurant (Don Jose's) in town that could accommodate a large group.

I voted for Homer, my oldest lives there and it would be a good excuse to go see him again…but that is a long drive there and back. It's likely to be an overnighter, especially with things like the Homer Brewing company to sample. We lived there a few years back…had a fun meet there once at my place….some good memories. The spit photo idea is great but there are some other fantastic photo spots down there.

BTW, I am already planning to be in Tok for labor day shagman!

Oh yes, Mike's opinions trump ALL. Everyone, listen up! Please do not share any more! Mike has got it covered for all of us!

I gotta check those places out next time I'm down in Homer. Thanks, Mike.

Why do you pull this crap, man? You ask opinions, people with first hand, inside info give theirs and you have to go turn it into some Chano vs. Nomad battle. So much for community.

Homer is leading the polls by a 3 to one margin at this stage….Granny already has a Whittier meet planned, Seward is old and stale for meets according to many here, several of us are already going to Tok for Labor day Tanacross.

They were just opinions, not gospel. I'd appreciate this sort of info if I had no knowledge of the place…instead you just poo poo all over it. No one's trying to dominate anything…just be a part of contributing. I'd be interested in the group chartering a Halibut trip too, then maybe have a beach side cookout afterwards.

This is all I was replying to, Sir. I suggested a spot I liked and you shat all over it. I found it a bit unnecessary, but I also don't mind trying new things, so I figured I won't take full offense until I've tried any of the other places that you found to be "better". I will align with you if they are indeed better since my tastes have "matured" since last I dined in Homer. Is that a good and fair enough reason? Because find it sufficient.

And I apologize if my comment came across overly rude. It was a poor attempt at humor.

Yeah, we've come a long way with each other…or so I'd thought.

We lived in Homer in 2000-2003….Starvin Marvin's had just opened and was bad then but was quite inexpensive. Maybe it was under new management when you ate there. I just recall it was super greasy…like puddles of grease in the cheese and on top of the pepperoni…and made papa murphy's look like it was gourmet pizza.

But hey, who I am to judge. Everybody has different tastes and budgets.

Homer will be a very long trip to do in a single day….something to keep in mind. It will also take a couple full tanks of gas for some of us… and you'll want to figure in stops for bathroom breaks…so forth. It is a solid 3.5 to 4 hour trip each way…observing traffic laws….so that plus eating…and back to Anchorage…you're looking at a long, full day.

For those with tight budgets, it will add up quick. There is camping on the beach…which is like $10 or so last time I was checking down there.

Josh placing one ballot in for homer. Might just bring the Tacoma for this one. So that way if anyone over loads their car, I can haul some extra gear. If need be, I even have a trailer.
