Change of plans - Old school power II
Okay, I've done some researching but for some reason I can't access the rslibertyclub.org site lately to find more info, so I thought I would just ask.
With regards to my dad and mine's beetle projects I found another motor so he is going to use the 1990 jdm EJ20g (stock 197hput of a wagon) for his drag car. It turns out the turbo I can get from a close friend is a VF 39. My question is: Can this motor, with this turbo, a huge intercooler, and a link or megasquirt ecu with some dyno tuning, injectors if needed, and race gas achieve the 300hp at the crank mark without any head mods? I realize something like a vf22 or vf30 might be a better option, but I have a vf39 available. For my daily driver super beetle, I found a 1997 jdm twin turbo 2.0 for a very small amount of money. If you can suggest a better engine/parts combination for these two cars, using the 1990 jdm EJ20, the jdm EJ20TT, and the vf39 to build a 300hp mostly race only motor (spool up is not too important, mainly just horsepower) and a 200+ hp engine for a daily driver please share your thoughts!!

Yes there are minor differences between the early ej20 various engines.
But.... The factory rated horsepower differences had more to do with tuning and turbo size, not the bottom end. So there is no reason to think that you cannot get 300 crank hp. Hell, if I made 300 whp out of an NA block with turbo pistons, you should easily be able to get 300 crank out of a an actual turbo motor! |

That's what everybodies been telling me, I think I might take that advice. I'll keep my eyes out for a turbo and ecu, find out exactly what I want and purchase when the time comes
