Unhappy The Dr. Says I need a new ECU

Finally took my car into the dealer to figure out whats wrong with it and they tell me I need to put back my stock exhaust and they will put in a new ECU and bulkhead harness for around $1700. He said that would stop my 02sensors from burning up as fast.
The thing is why would I put back on an exhaust I'm not going to want anyways and tune it to that?
What options do I have so that I can keep my exhaust and stop burning 02s?
I still have a tranny problem but I need to fix this problem first so I can have the tranny guy look at it.

Wow.... thats a new one.... I dont know $1700 is a lot of money for a new ecu. But the bulkhead harness is a lot of work.

i went through 4 front o2 sensors in the first few months I had my 2002 wrx which I bought new with 9 miles on it. The car was bone stock. They never figured out why they kept blowing...they just kept replacing them. Eventually I couldn't afford to keep missing work so I could sit at the dealer all day while they did nothing but replace the sensor. I've been driving with a blown front o2 sensor ever since...and boy does the car run like crap I don't have a check engine code for a bad front o2 sensor but just today my friend found a way to test the sensor:
The wires from the front o2 sensor go up to a harness under that piece of plastic by the passenger side strut top. There colors on the 4 wires coming from the sensor are white, blue, black, black (+,-,heater1, heater2). Using a multimeter test the resistance between the pin for the blue wire and the pin for the white wire. My lazy crapped out sensor reads 1.8 or so and a good one reads 2.8 or so.

Even tho the car should have qualified for lemon law i'm stuck driving the pile of ****. You can't imagine how fast plugs get fouled when the car runs this rich

There is a TSB for the MY00's and the O2 sensor. There is a reflash of the ECU available that will correct the problem, but there's no way you should be paying for it. It should be covered under either the powertrain warranty or the emissions related warranty (8yr/80000 miles).
