Default 3 Sisters - Almost time!

I'm driving from Dallas to San Antonio for a convention, and I'm going to take this opportunity to drive the Three Sisters. If anyone is in the area on Thursday afternoon, let me know!

I might even be able to drive the roads again on Friday or Saturday afternoon...

I ended up doing it on Friday afternoon and it was amazing. From the scenery, to the insane grade on some of the hills, to the blind turns, it was so much fun. It makes complete sense that people call it the Texas Nurburgring. I will definitely be doing that again.

You wouldn't regret it, that's for sure. But it is about 400 miles to get there. Totally worth it, I just need to save up some cash for gas. It's very close to Lost Maples State Park, which is one of the prettier parks in Texas. It's really nice in the fall when the leaves change. Maybe we need to set up a cruise/camp out. Probably too hard to organize, but it would be fun.

I've done this drive in my S2000 and 350Z. love every bit of it! if you come in a secret way there is a set of consecutive hair pins coming down the side of a very large cliff. combined with hundreds of miles of beauty, roads with rock face on one side and cliffs on the other, and insane hills there is no place like it in texas. pure driving euphoria

Keep in mind its a 5+ hr trip out there. its def a 2-3 day thing at least. i took friday to drive over there, sat for the sisters spent the night downtown on the riverwalk and drove home sunday

and id do it again in a heartbeat. i suggest waiting for cooler temps so you can enjoy the scenery.

Exactly! And I came in on that rode, I'm pretty sure it was 22, and holy crap, it was insane. I had to drop to first gear at one point! So much fun.

It is definitely an over-nighter, at least one night, but I got a hotel in San Antonio for $45 a night and a camp site is around $15 a night.

Maybe we need to pick a weekend in October, drive down Friday night, the Sisters on Saturday, head home Sunday morning (or Saturday night if needed). I doubt many people would drive down from DFW, but I'd do it! And maybe some San Antonio cats could show us how it's done?

Throw out a date!

Here's my available weekends:
Oct. 5-7
Oct. 12-14 (Tuner's Challenge Poker Run, not so good)
Nov. 16-18

I would drive down there even if it was just me and one other car. With permission from my wife of course!

I won't know about Oct/Nov until the semester starts up and I can see the exam/project schedules. Hooray grad school

Will update as soon as I know though. I grew up in central NY, with plenty of fun driving roads relatively close by. Everything here is flat and straight Haha, so I've been missing those roads since moving here.

That's right, 16, thanks. And you aren't lying when you talk about rivaling roller coasters! It was mind blowing when I went over the first of those insane downhills, only to have my body slammed down into the seat as I began the ascent back up. I wish they had a % grade on those bad boys. I knew I should have brought my protractor!

People might think I'm over-selling it, but that would be impossible.

Damn, I drove to Uvalde earlier this year and wish I would've known about this then. I definitely would've taken that route back home! Hmm, might be in San Antonio weekend of Nov 16-18.

Okay, Nov. 16-18 is the leader in the clubhouse. That's some good leafer season timing. I've always wanted to camp at Lost Maples SP in Nov.

I'm gonna put it on the calendar. So, is this the date? That weekend is the weekend before the week of Thanksgiving. If you're a teacher (like me) or student, that can work out really well. Especially if you put it on your calendar now and start making plans for it. I'm doing it mofo's!
