Warning: Owning a Subaru will make you lazy when it comes to running the snow blower in your driveway. They're calling for a foot, or thereabouts, of snow here in NE Ohio starting sometime around noon. Blizzard warning starting sometime today. Blowing and drifting snow. There is a big storm coming up from the South. John

I was in Central New York for the past few days and they got about 15 inches over 5 days so I decided to take my car out into my parents back yard. I have the Goodyear Comfortread Touring tires on and I can verify that this vehicle is a tank in the snow. I then tested my sisters 2003 Chevy trailblazer in the same snowy back yard and got it stuck. My Fathers 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee made it through but just barely(had to keep the momentum up). The Chevy was so heavy it sank into the deeper snow and with the lack of traction control it just started spinning one wheel in the front and one in the rear. The Subaru did absolutely fine and I was about to stop and start in the deep snow without issue.
Also on one day that they were getting about 6 inches I decided to take it from Canastota to Cazenovia through the hills just to see how it would do. It did fine on untreated roads with about 5 inches on everything and drifts that were about 12-18 inches deep of moderately dense snow. I even stopped several times on the steepest hills I could find just to see if it would climb up it and while it would go a little squirrely in the back-end the VDC and TC would kick on and keep it pointing straight. My only concern is that while accelerating up slippery hills I would hear a clicking coming from my shifter. I have never hear this before under any other conditions but I could duplicate it ever time I would accelerate up a icy hill. |

I got some Nitto NT-SN2 snow tires. Currently only driveways and parking lots still have snow/ice on them, but they feel smoother than OEM tires on dry pavement. Can't wait 'till it snows again

Had some fun around Syracuse and the suburbs tonight with the CVT hatch in the middle of the snowstorm. Was very pleased with the handling on snow covered roads, and even more pleased when it wasn't all packed down. Great performance, IMHO, even with almost 12k on the stock tires. Ended up plowing a little snow when I got home, it was deeper than the ground clearance of the car. Now I need to hit a parking lot that's not plowed out, and get even more of a feeling for how the car handles under some differing conditions.

With DWS tires, the impreza could handle the 7-8 inches on snow we got in Arkansas. BUT!!!! One of the fog light cover (the black piece) could not handle it and decided to ditch the car. But holy crap the impreza was a plow. I wish I had me video camer and my in car mount. I did take some nice pictures when the snow was about 4 or so inches. But damn now I highly recommend the DWS Contenitial tires. I mean they are probably not as good as dedicated snow tires but man they really did the job. Yea they slipped alot on my girl friend's steep drive way but still got up there. But because stupid drivers and dumb SUV, I was lucky enough to test out the stop and start on a hill covered in black ice. Some how made it up the hill and pass the slower cars without slipping. Obviously, if I had punch the gas in first gear I would most likely spin my tires alot but I took it easy and the car could practically handle it all. Besides the fog light cover. That is the only thing that bothered me a little. Hearing all the snow and ice hitting underneath the car. Sounded terrible and scared my girlfriend. I wished Subaru didn't lower the car and kept it at 6.1 inches.

We get enough snow here to cause all kinds of wreckage, but not enough for winter tires to be common equipment. Drivers set out with their SUV on hockey puck tires and end up ornamenting a telephone pole with it. A mere 1.1" here smashed up sixty cars in four hours. Medics and police were stretched to the limit. When I got home, the perfectly prepared rack of ribs I put in the oven that morning was at room temperature and ruined because one of the 60 cars knocked out the mains to my neighborhood. All this, because people don't care to put the right tires on their car. |

went to test out the car out few days ago at an untreated back alley, AFAIK this is steepest slope in my city. maybe around 30-40%?
It was able to climb all the way up to the barrier(yeah i know ) though I think it should have no problem going up all the way. At around 0:34 I came to a full stop on purpose, and from that point on you can hear the VDC working hard all the way temperature was around -10F, running dunlop wintersport 3D http://goo.gl/maps/dgXdN Very capable car! |

Been in central ny area since friday, it has snowed every day around 5 inches or more at night. relatives live in a small town on a steep hill. Car had no problem handling the terrain, I did disable vdc when climbing up hills though. yesterday drove from saquoit to oneonta, then took 28 back to nj. Hit the snow storm in kingston about 30 cars crashed on both sides of the road, a few qc plates and trucks, car handled unplowed road smashingly once we got closer to nj it turned over to sleet also very stable, kept her mostly in 3/4 gear due to traffic. In nj turned over to rain/freezing rain nearly had some idiot run into me since he though he could drive through a snow bank with his chrysler minivan. He failed, big time. I only felt the car about to slip in the slush but just let off the accelerator, straigthened her out and then reapplied throttle and she was fine. snow tires plus awd + mountain roads = very impressive.

not my first storm but driving home last night I spied a big, empty, parking lot with about 7" of fresh snow.
So I doubled back, and did a couple of wide drifts. Awesome, this car with snow tires is a beast in the snow! |

They forecasted around a foot of snow for my area on Christmas day. We ended up with about an inch > not nearly enough to test out the snow abilities on my wrx

^^ Nice pics.
Since I see your original wheels, I assume you were driving on the OEM Yokos. How did they do in the snow? How many miles do you have on them? |
