Default Questions about replacing the rear hub and bearing?

I'm upgrading the hubs on my 2004 STI to 5x114. I have the package from 6gunracing. It includes new 5x114 hubs and new bearings for the rear. On the rears, they say take the whole housing to a mechanic to replace the hub and bearing. I'd like to do it myself. There seems to be a lot of DIY info for working on the fronts, but I can't find anything on the rears. Questions:

Can I replace the hub and bearing without removing the housing?

Can I use a slide hammer to pull the hub from the housing?

Will I need to use a bearing separator and press?

My understanding is that you need to use the entire housing, as there is a difference in hub size and design.

Thanks. I edited my post to be more clear. I have the hub conversion kit from 6gunracing. They say take the rear housing to mechanic to have them pull replace the hub and bearing. But I'd like to do this myself.

You need a press or something like the bearing shark.

I think you *could* do it without a press. It would take some creativity with a threaded rod though. But I've seen it done.

I have absolutely no idea how you could possibly do it without pulling the knuckle off of the car though.

While it is easier if you have a nearby shop that you trust with the press work, and it would save you several hours worth of work, I think you can get a pretty cheap hydraulic press from Harbor Freight that will do the job nicely.
