-18 af learning at idle 2018 wrx
As the title says. 2018 wrx at idle its going to about -18 on the af learning 1.
Just a little background info, it was worse like -20, before opening the hood and found the bottom of the engine intake had come loose, and found a whole bunch of rocks and stuff in it. So changed the engine air filter and cleaned the maf sensor. Am just about to get and etune. And I really don't know how to check for leaks and stuff, I'm not much of a car guy. Could the etuner diagnose anything that is wrong, if anything is? Any idea what could be the culprit? I See +- 16 is acceptable on the newer dit cars, but I'm even farther out than that! I suck at cars.

1. STOP trying to modify your car
2. Return car to OEM state 3. Check for AF learning once it's in OEM state 4. If reading still shows -18, take to dealership nearest you |

Sounds like a leak, get a pressurized smoke test done and go from there.
That's exactly what a dealership will do only they'll charge you out the ass |

Considering OP says he sucks at cars, it's probably not a good idea. Subaru dealerships are now taking pictures of any modifications so they can later use them to deny warranty claims.

Which is exactly why I wouldn't suggest bringing it to a dealer. OP, get a smoke test done by a reputable Subie shop near you and go from there.
Is the intake OEM or aftermarket? Any other modifications on the car? |

It’s just the ap and and axle back exhaust. I just wanted the tuner to smooth out some of the dam drops and the small feedback knock I was getting. How am I gonna tell them? Oh my af learning is low... I’m still under warranty but obviously they can deny me or give me a hard time since I have the ap now.

And it’s only at idle. When I’m driving or doing pulls everything is well within limits.

The car is basically stock and a negative trim at idle is unlikely to be a leak considering a vacuum leak (noted at idle) pulls in un-metered air, resulting in positive trims.
If you want to get a boost leak test, I can set you up with some friends in Omaha. I make those guys test as they have a bit more than stock and well... There is always a leak. Last edited by yamahaSHO; 10-24-2019 at 12:58 AM. |

Where at in Omaha? Is the OP in Omaha? I ask as I live 15 minutes north of town. If he is local to the area there is definitely a top notch independent subie shop here. RG=Russ's garage!!

He's in Lincoln. I wouldn't purposely recommend my customers go there... I lived in Omaha for 8 years.

If I had to recommend a shop, I'd point someone to SDR Performance. I run dyno days there, several times a year. Other than that, I've always done everything myself and taught many over the years to do things like this themselves.

It's funny you say that! My wife's 2020 wrx is there as I type this. Picking it up at 9:30 tomorrow am. It's a nice shop. When i recommended RG I was talking a strictly Subaru shop. I'd like to know the next time you have a dyno day there.

Vlad is good people... Too bad he got the dyno right after I moved back to Colorado. I will shoot to have one in the Spring, but I juggle 3 jobs, plus all the other stuff people do, so I have a hard time setting dates this far out. I retire from one job in about 7 months though.
I post up for dyno days on my page, so if you want to join that, you'll know when I do a dyno day. I only got one in this year, but I mixed it up with a turbo S2000 and GT-R, in addition to the Subaru's. Basically, I dial in E-tunes and finish the tune on the dyno day. It helps effectively use the time. We have talked about doing 2-day events, but I also like to throw in a track day if I can. https://www.facebook.com/groups/388091141201858/ You might recognize this car... |
