Default New Cooper Avon R Tech (R-Comps)

So there's some new R-Compounds coming out from Cooper....

(From Tire Rack... dunno if on the site yet, but got these from Luke)

205/55R14 AVON TECH R 146.00
205/50R15 AVON TECH R 155.00
225/45R15 AVON TECH R 161.00
225/50R16 AVON TECH R 162.00
225/45R17 AVON TECH R 181.00
275/40R17 AVON TECH R 203.00

Interesting to say the least... puts them almsot in-line with Kumhos... but who want's to try then 1st once they get approved by the SCCA?

its cool that they're bringing their stuff across the pond reasonably priced too, and in my size i'll need to buy new tires before the Toledo Pro, and the decision keeps getting more cloudy. will the 710 come out in my size? will the 710 even be legal this year? will the Avon be legal this year? F-it, i'm going with yoks

Well it may be that the Cooper don't make it in time for SCCA to put them on the approved list.

But how can you say not to use them when no-one has any results on them yet? Heck, we don't even know if they're a RR compound or Auto-x....

At this time, 710s are NOT legal for SCCA automotive events. They've been removed from the list.

I have a funny feeling they won't make the deadline either.

I noticed two people listing Avon as their tire in the DC Tour entry list (one in DS). Did that tire get approved?

If Tirerack is carrying them, it shouldn't be too long before some data comes out...maybe we should mob Luke in the Wheel & Tire forum.

BTW aren't they also one of the Solo sponsors?

If they made them in say 245/45/16 or 265/45/16 I'd try them out.

in our very limited testing, which was head to head against the Hoosier A3s04, here's what we found

1.) the Tech was very competitive with the Hoosier and in some cases slightly faster

2.) when comparing first run to first run the Tech R was grippier

3.) the wear was much less with the Tech R after the same amount of runs

4.) while the Hoosier is undoubtably fast they are very temperamental at the limits. The optimum performance window of the Hoosiers is quite small

5.) The optimum performance window for the Tech R is quite large when compared to the Hoosier

6.) the Tech R seems to like a little less pressure than the Hoosiers, just like the Kumho's do

I have also spoken with several people who have used them at extremely competitive events who felt the Tech R was faster and their times backed up those feelings

I'll report back when I have more info

Can't wait to hear the pony boys whining about the WRX next. Don't beat up on them too bad.

[Mr. X] Well 100% of the WRXs are badged just like the WRX STi, they share "WRX" -- move it to BSP [Mr. X]
