98 2.5 RS headgasket
Alright, I think this is the best place for this post...
I'm about to buy, pending the opinions I get here, A 98 2.5 RS with about 100k on it. But I've heard they have aging headgasket issues, and the motors are not as strong as the SOHC ones. So... My questions are quite obvious. Is my only option to cure this an engine swap? Or is there preventative maitnance, or will changing the headgaskets help? I'm looking at getting it a good distance away from me, and I need to know how reliable the cars are, I need it as a daily driver, and replacement for rallycross and autocross while I do a huge swap to my other vehicle. ty in advance.

Well the 98 RS is a phase I block. If I were you I would keep the DOHC heads and use the SOHC Phase II block. Just becarefull because some of the 99 RS have SOHC with a phase I block. And according to matt monson subaru engines are like legos. It would be the cheapest thing and you don't have to mess with the ecu and all the crap. And I would defentially do a engine swap or what I recommended because you blow a headgasket doing rallycross and autocross a lot quicker than just daily driving but trust me. Because right now I have a blown head gasket. I used some of that head gasket repair stuff, but I don't think it worked. Because my car overheated again.
