2022 Honda Civic Will Be Quite the Looker, Debuts November 17
Honda's giving the first official look at the 11th-gen Civic in prototype form before its reveal next week.

has given a first look at the 2022 Civic sedan, and it's an inviting redesign.
The car, in prototype form, will be revealed during a Twitch live stream on Tuesday, November 17, at 9:45 p.m. ET.
The 2022 Honda Civic will go on sale in spring 2021, starting in the low-$20,000 range.

You'll be inclined to swipe right on the 2022 Honda Civic when you see it because the 11th-generation sedan will be much more attractive than its somewhat awkward-looking predecessor. Honda will unveil a prototype of the next Civic during a live stream on Twitch on November 17 at 9:45 p.m. ET.

2022 honda civic teaser

Honda will only offer the 2022 Civic in sedan (which we're seeing here) and hatchback forms, discontinuing the two-door coupe models. The next-gen car will have a better looking athletic and angular design, which reminds us of the newly redesigned 2021 Acura TLX, which is getting a 355-hp high-performance Type S model. The prototype version, which we'll see before the production-ready car, features a gloss black grille with a chrome Honda badge and gloss black wheels along with an integrated lip spoiler in the rear and dual oval exhaust pipes.

We don't know much about the new Civic's powertrains, but Honda has confirmed that the 2022 lineup will include sedan, hatchback, Si, and Type R models, meaning there will be varying power levels from various four-cylinder engines. They'll ride on a newer version of the current Civic's platform, and a manual transmission should be standard (#SavetheManuals).

The 2022 Honda Civic will arrive in the U.S. in the spring, and pricing is expected to start in the low-$20,000 range.

Your Last Look At The 2022 Honda Civic Before It's Unveiled

The new Honda Civic will look more restrained than the current model.

Not long after Honda confirmed a prototype of the all-new Civic will be unveiled on Twitch in an online streaming event on November 17, a camouflaged prototype has been spotted by our spy photographers being tested on public roads.

Spied in a sedan body style, the new Civic prototype is fully camouflaged, but the design cues appear to match what we've already seen in leaked patent images. While the current Civic's styling is on the excessive side, the new model will look more restrained, but that doesn't mean it's going to be bland.

The current car's over the top C-shaped taillights have been scrapped in favor of sleeker-looking LED taillights and the prototype is also fitted with a subtle trunk spoiler. The redesigned grille is also narrower, the headlights are reshaped and incorporate LED daytime running lights, and the design looks much cleaner overall. In terms of proportions, the new Civic looks longer and wider than the current model.

Powertrain details remain a mystery, but the current Civic Sedan is offered with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder producing 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.

EX trims and above use a 1.5-liter turbo-four with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, but the manual option is removed from the options list. The Civic Si Sedan will also return for a new generation, which develops 205 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque from a 1.5-liter turbo-four in the current model.

Topping the range will, of course, be the all-new Civic Type R, but at this early stage, no development prototypes of this have been spotted. After it debuts next week, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Sedan will go on sale in the US in late spring 2021 for the 2022 model year. Let's hope it lives up to the hype.
