Default EJ25 in a 1990 Mustang?

Hey guys,

Well, here is the deal, I personally acquired a 1990 Mustang Notch for very cheap. The car is absolutley clean except for the fact that it has a blown motor. Now, my original intention was to throw a motor in it, and turn it for some extra money.. That's when our fabricator and shop foreman came up to the car and started measuring. They have this wacked idea of throwing an STi motor in this thing adapted to a two speed powerglide for a lightweight, RWD drag car. What would this accomplish? Hell, I don't know, something different and make people's heads spin?

Now, I know we can do it, and the more I think about it, the more I want to do it. But what I want to ask the community is:

Has this ever been done before? If so, is there any information on it? Anything to help us get started on this project would be great.

Thanks for your time,

Chris

*Edited - Removed time goals, just want to know if anybody has done this before.

Low 9's - High 8's?

Dreaming.

Figure low 11's - high 10's maybe.

For the cash it will take to run 11's you could be running low 10's high 9's on the correct engine.

First of all, the car will weigh in somewhere around 2400 lbs. Secondly, our goal is to have around 650 - 700hp, that mated up to a two speed automatic wouldn't be too hard to achieve.

subaru motor's just don't respond with big number when modded,a 4.6 or 5.0 would put that out fairly easily.700hp LOL goodluck highest horsepower subaru i've seen running that's being daily driven is 620+/- horsepower, and that car has tons of problems,in addition,it will take alot of money to get 700hp out of a ej25.Think again, throw a 350(crossbreed),or another engine in your car.If you do decide to go ej25 i would conclude that your a tard

I would be interested to see if something like this could be done...but I'd have to agree that a v8 is probably gonna be a better bet.

Ok, let me reword this. Although low 9's are probably impossible, it would be cool, but our ultimate goal is to make a totally unique Mustang. We do both Subies and Mustangs, and a lot of them.. Making a hybrid car like this would just be totally different.

I want to do an EJ25 swap into a Fox Mustang, has anybody done this?

it would be cool to see, and would get lots of looks, but i think your hp numbers are a little high, 700hp out of a ej25 is insane

Ehh.. I have a few motors sitting here that aren't going to be too shy of it, but this engine in particular will have a front mounted turbo.

like someone already said.... a 6-700hp EJ is going to be crazy and a lot harder to do than just buying and building another mufftang 5.0 motor.....

if it's only going to be a drag car...

maybe a EZ30 (if thats what the subaru H6 is called.... i forget)

or if you wanna be super baller........ put a 20B in there.... (Mazda 3 ROTOR)
a 20B would be truely gangsta

hows about a 2jZ powerplant so you can race it in the import class. or an RB powerplant...
if you put in the subaru drivetrain...why put in the awd as well and make it into a circuit car instead of a dragger.

I think you sould throw in a rb26dett twin turbo motor from a skyline gtr in it .
It sould easily handle over a 1000hp

It doesn't make a lot of sense if the end goals are high HP, but if unique is the goal, it certainly would be spot on. Though I think the rb26dett would be a good idea as well, but not as unique as it's been seen now.

I think it's a good idea, something truly unique...to all the people that keep saying put a 5.0L motor in, yea of course that would be cheaper to make more HP, but how many thousands of people have already done it??

I personally have not ever heard of this done, so I say go for it and it will def. turn heads!

Unique? Sure, is it a good way to showcase your shops talents? Not really.

Why you ask? The Subaru crowds will think it's neat but a bit of a gimmick, the Mustang guys will see it as blasphemous.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for cool projects like this, but the end result will be less than spectacular.
