Default A pet for your pet? opinions

So we recently got back from vacation and after we picked up our dog from my moms house she seemed a bit depressed. My mom has a bassett that Roxy (Our 3 year old english bull dog) loves to play with, so we started thinking that maybe we should get another dog for her to play with.

My wife and I both work all day, I do come home for lunch, but she is alone most of the day. We currently live in an apartment on a third floor, we will be buying a house in the next 4-6 months though. We found some English Bulldog/Boxer mixed puppies, that will be ready in the begining of July. So thoughts, opinions.

Roxy

Potential new puppy.

You really can't leave a puppy out for 8 hours with no supervision, so while it's be a great companion, it's not really practical, as the pup should be crated when you're not home.

That said, we got a puppy for us and our other dog and it worked out great. But, someone is almost always home with him.

Good idea. Company is company whether you're a human or an animal. We have a dog and 3 cats and they all obviously enjoy having the others around.

The first couple of months will be brutal if you can't at least get home at lunch.

it'll probably be 6 months to a year before you want to leave that puppy out of a crate to play with Roxy, unless you put them both in a small pen.

You could consider adopting an adult dog which could cut down on that time.

I work 1.5 miles from home, and i go home for lunch everyday, and when not home we would keep the dog locked in the kitchen

Our 8 month AmBull is crated while we are gone. We didn't get her until she was 6 months because we worked out a deal with the breeder.

Go adopt a slightly older ( > 6 months) dog.

puppies will eat the testicles off babies.. WATCH OUT..

Company is good for most animals.. we've got a second dog recently and it seems to have done alot for dog #1. But isn't a replacement for your lack of ability to spend more time with them.

my dog is teh same way, after she spends time at my parents house with their dogs, although after a couple days she gets over it. My wife and I have thought many times about getting a second dog, but it really isn't an option. i would deffinatly tell you to wait till you have your own house first though, because as I've noticed once you through more than one dog into the mix they start getting destructive fast, especially if it is a puppy.
