Default Any TS owners out there?

I'm (I mean "we're") about to start shopping for a TS.

I'd really like a WRX wagon, but after shelling out for the car, the insurance, and putting premium gas in it, it makes more sense for us to get a TS. Plus, much as I love sporty driving, I'll more often than not be keeping the tach at sub-4000 levels. I'm also a torque addict

Who out there has a TS?
How much do dealers budge off the MSRP?
How's the insurance on these?
Any mods?
Would there be much difference between the '03 rear drums and the '04 rear discs? (bear in mind, I probably won't be racing or anything).

Thanks everyone!
Daz

edit: I did try the search engine, but it doesn't like two letter words...

Hi there Daz:

I bought a TS in October and I am loving it.

I doubt that you will keep you tach under 4000 but whatever

Don Docksteader had a deal here, for $900 extra you got the fog lights the rear spoiler and Motegi MR7 15" wheels.

Even after this deal with a paint sealant and the under coating I paid under MSRP.

Insurance is normal as it is rated as a 5door wagon.

I have tested my brakes...... alot....
and they work fantastic, the ABS works very good in comparasin the many other models.

I believe that you will be as happy as I am... this is definatley the best small car that I have owned, and for a small car... it has the most leg room, even beating many midsize cars.

Well I have had my 02 TS for almost a year and i haven't had any problems. I have never owned a car yet with rear disc brakes so I don't no if there is a hug differance.

I thing I don't like is I am just over 6 feet tall so when i have people in the back I have to move the seat up as the back seats can be a little tight for room because I have my seat all the way back.

As far as mods the only things i have done is put on 2000 RS wheels, some side skirts off a WRX Wagon, New CD Deck and some mesh fog light covers.

I have been happy with my 02 TS.

Heh.

I'm about 5'2", and my wife barely scrapes 5 feet tall. Any backseat passengers should have miles of legroom.

Do the fog light "holes" in the 02/03's only accept Subaru fog lights, or can you mount something else in there? I'd like to put in a nice pair of driving lights and set up the wiring so they come on with the hi-beams.

You can fit anything in there - as long as it fits!

If you want to wire it to stay on with the highbeams, you'll have to poke around here and there to do a little rewiring. It's possible, but takes a little work.

Not specific to buying a TS, but some of these threads have good info in them for buying in town. Check it out.

I have a black TS. If you want 03 black 5 speed you'll be out of luck, I got the last one in the city. Unless specialty was lying to me. But if you want a Silver L.E. docksteader and specialty had tons and are desperate to sell them. I bet you could get a L.E. silver for less than the MSRP of my black one. L.E should be $1500 more than the non-L.E. You get fog lights, chrome tipped exhaust and the hatch tail thingy. (not a bad deal)

One complaint about the TS is it's rims and tires are pretty lame...even the L.E.'s, which comes with stock tires (bridgestone re92) mounted on not very nice looking alloy rims (they would be good winter rims though). Subaru should have at least matched the Protege 5 and went for 16 inch rims with 55 series tires, even if they were only on steel rims. Soon....Soon... I'll get new Rims and tires, can't wait.

I would personally go on looks, for me I liked the 03 Front end more more and decided to jump on the chance for low interest, versus the supposed price increase on the 04 and high interest, even with the Rear Disc and ESC

I drive an 02 TS, and I think it's a good value. Insurance seems reasonable enough. Cheaper than an RS that's a couple years old. I don't think the disc vs drum issue is a big deal. When it comes to mods, most of the WRX stuff also fits the TS. As someone mentioned, wheels/tires are a good place to start. If you like corners, a rear swabar (about 18mm) is a another thing to get. With a set of good tires and a rear swaybar, the car will turn much flatter and have a nice balance.

Oh, I should also mention, if you mount driving lights in the foglight locations, they are too low to be very effective.

I'm still chuckling at the sway bar thing Time to start a business

My best advice for you is to try and drive one for an extended period of time. I think DD still have the extended test drive program. Maybe you can try it out. I find that the torque from the EJ25 really isn't anything to write home about unless you used to drive a Honda, but it does get the job done.

Most mods are not too bad to find as many are transferable from the RS, if not the WRX wagon. Some others are PITA such as finding a set of good brake pads. Poke around and you should find the info

Great info, thanks folks! It's good to get a BC perspective on price, insurance, etc.
I'm actually in Invermere, waaay ot in the southeast corner of BC. I'm a lot closer to Calgary dealers than Vancouver, but I may come out to the coast to buy a car. Nice road trip, plus half my break-in would be done by the time I got home .

The new 04 TS also has a factory roof rack Ó la WRX/OBS. if you're looking for a deal, go for the 02/02, but I gotta say that the 04 TS is pretty hot. If I'd have waited, I might've got an 04 TS instead of the 02 WRX. (Yeah, RIGHT.)
Actually in all seriousness, after going to this years auto show and paying a buck a litre for a while there, i was REALLY drooling over the new TS.
It has a lot going for it...

I would have to say I like my 01 TS sdn very much, you pretty well can't go wrong with any impreza, new or old age . however the TS has the drums in the back ,wich are ok they do the job , but when I switched over to disc's on the back ,bigger calipers and rotors on the front with braided brake lines wow, there was a major difference it was worth it for sure.
so ya good car, with lots of room to mod

I have an 03 TS. It's a great deal even at MSRP. I've gone and plunked pretty much everything WRX possible onto it for cheap. Basically my car looks like a blue ridge pearl wrx minus the hood scoop and rear discs.

I love the car and you can't touch it for what you get for the money.
