Default Any STi owners out there with a spoiler squeak?

I have a pretty audible squeak coming from the rear of my car when I'm driving at parking lot speeds or when I'm going over bumps or driveways. It sounds like it's coming from the trunk area of the car where the spoiler is located, but I'm not sure if this may be the reason for the squeaking. Any other Scoobie owners experience this with the monster wing on the STi?

Are you sure it isn't the rear suspension? on a related note, this post is in the wrong forum and expect it to be moved shortly.

I took my wing off and replaced with a regular WRX spoiler.

But I never noticed any squeaking coming from the wing.

However, at 18K miles, I'm getting all sorts of scary creeks, clicks, and thumps from the rear of the car at low speeds.

There are a couple of huge threads on these noises on here. I'm uncertain if mine is the center or rear diff, or the suspension.

Last week, it got so unnerving that I took the two small boxes out of my trunk to make sure I wasn't hear those sliding around. Noises still present. I even stood in the trunk and jumped up and down several times.....suspension was as silent as the dead.

So I suspect I have a problem with the rear diff. It used to make a small clunk every now and then, but in the last couple of months, the noises have gotten louder and more frequent. A couple of times it's sounded like someone has thrown a handful of gravel at my car. But it's such a quick, sudden, unexpected sound, I've not been able to tell where it comes from. It sounds like it happens on the passenger side.

I don't abuse my car. I regularly get 22+mpg in city driving. In fact, I filled up this morning and got almost 23.5mpg! I still have the original RE070 tires at 18K miles, and I'll easily get 25K miles out of them.

I suspect a trip to the dealer is in my near future.

Yup, they are know to squeak every now and again, especially when you drill all the holes yourself.

More importantly, how the heck is this a powertrain thread?

gonna get moved...

Default I heare it!

I deffinetly Hear it... I thought it was the suspension issue that has plagued most 04's but the dealer told me NO. and I too now am starting to think it is the spoiler... I am going to check the nuts later to make sure none of them came loose... if you do be very careful to not over torque. Still wonder if it is the suspension though since I got fron and rear strut bars it seems to have gotten worse.

I'd check the following:

1) Suspension
2) Exhaust
3) Trunk floor
4) Jack Stand

In case of the trunk floor, there are a couple of metal pegs that slide into the frame that keep it from moving around... if you slide these up and down, you'll get a squeaky noise.

I had a similar squeaking noise (I have the STi trunk/wing, but no STi ), and found out that my exhaust was actually rubbing up against something underneath the car.

i get a squeak from my wing. I get out of the cear and can replicate the same sound i hear from my car, by tapping the middle of my wing. Sounds like a pigeon flying away...

Thanks for the responses guys, I posted this in the 2.5 powertrain forum because I figured this would be the forum with most spoiler owners since the STi's all came with spoilers like the one I have. I apologize for my misdirection.
