What would the harness be for the subwoofer? Is there an easy way to wire up an older Subaru underseat subwoofer to this unit? I avoided the Kicker Subwoofer because I hear it is awful, expensive, and eats up 1/3 of the cargo area.

I am looking for the easiest, most noninvasive, and inexpensive way to add a little bass to this car. As of now, the Kicker speakers deliver crystal clear sound that is extremely flat, even after tweaking the equalizer for the most bass.

SVXdc - which harness would I need to connect a Subaru underseat subwoofer from a 2009-2013 Forester to this navigation unit? How difficult of a job is this?

Bump for answer about wiring harness.

I looked through most of the thread and didn't see anything. I would like to simply swap the OEM speakers with upgraded speakers. Not looking for anything with additional volume, just would like speakers that don't sound like ****.

Is this possible with the OEM head unit or is it absolutely required to replace the head unit or add some sort of amp. I'm not a big loud music listener, but I really hate the sound quality of the factory speakers.

I hated the stock speakers in my 2014 Crosstrek with the factory navigation HU. They had decent bass, however, the sound was muffled and muddy. I got the Subaru Kicker Tweeters and the Kicker Speaker Upgrade speakers installed.

The sound is crystal clear now, however, the low end (bass) response is completely non-existent. I list to classical music, country, and electronic dance music (pretty diverse selection). For classical and country, the sound has a lot of clarity and sounds great, since there isn't too much of a need for bass. However, I can not listen to electronic dance music for more than 5 minutes, since there is zero bass in this vehicle.

Now before you go and get the Kicker Subwoofer accessory, read the review in these forums. There is not a single good review for it. It is expensive, and sound overpowering and terrible.

Since not too many people have the new factory navigation on here, I am struggling to find what I can do to add an underseat subwoofer to the factory navigation and kicker speakers without spending $Texas and making a mess of a new car. I been struggling to find a simple solution, like using an older factory underseat subwoofer with the new navigation HU. I have been unable to get any info as of yet.

Default wire colors from HU to speakers

Is there a link or anything available that details the wiring colors, that show from the HU all the way to the speakers.

I can see all kinds of exposed wires coming out underneath the steering column. After a lot of reading, it seems tapping to the fronts is the best plan for hooking up to a LOC or speaker-level inputs to a sub amp. My question is simply if these colors as detailed from the harness diagram, are the same that go through from out of the dash to the speaker. In one of the guides SVXdc had posted, he mentioned that in many models the wire colors change along the way to the speakers.

Again, the reason I'm asking is I don't want to rip out the dash to get behind the HU. I'd like to tap from one of these exposed wires underneath the dash on the drivers side. Risky, I know, but this has to be easier for what I'm trying to do. I want to remove, unsnap the least number of interior parts as possible.

8 = white/black (speaker LF)
9 = blue/orange (speaker LF)

17 = green (speaker RF)
18 = brown/yellow (speaker RF)

Thanks - I'm not particularly needy on a sub, I just want the upgraded speakers. Would probably go with something like Boston Acoustics with a good range so that they are bassy enough on their own.

well, I'm going to answer my own question. Through 'photo analysis' thanks to other users' posts and uploaded pictures of their door speaker installs, as well as a step-by-step with pictures on the Crutchfield site, it appears these wire colors hold true, at least for the left front/rear. I've located a harness on the lower left drivers side that has these wires for both front and rear, that will not require removal of anything to get to. The right side however, haven't located these yet to be able to confirm.

I've got a plan that will not involve any wire butchering...i will post pictures if it all works out. Again, the main goal is to remove as little as possible and not break/scratch anything in this process.

SVXdc, your custom harness is obviously still the best idea. I personally am just not OK with ripping out all those panels on a brand new car.

I have an 01 2.5 rs. I am struggling to get sound after replacing the head unit. Originally I had cut the wires and made the connections myself, however no sound. So I spent the three bucks and bought the wiring harness. I put everything back together, used the harness and still no sound.
I have three questions

1. The orange wires that went into the CD player are just for illumination and I don't need them anymore right?

2. I have an extra blue wire for a power antenna, but I don't have a power antenatal so I can just tape this off right?

3. I have a brown wire that is in the 14 spot which doesn't come up on any wiring diagram. Does anybody know what this is?

Ok one more..

Do,I need to reconnect the cig lighter and the center console plugs first? Are there connections to the woofer or reR speakers there?

Thanks.. I'm three days into a project which should have taken 2 hours max.

to me tearing up the dash and risking to break something is a lot worse of an idea.
To remove the HU in a 2008-2014 WRX/STi or 2008-2011 Impreza, you only need to remove one piece -- the bezel/fascia that immediately surrounds the front of the HU. 2012-up Impreza is nearly as easy, except that in cars with manual A/C controls you must also deal with the control linkage cables.

You may have seen thread(s) where people start at the passenger door and start peeling off panels just so they could get a better grip on one side of the HU fascia, but that is not necessary!

Look through the links in post #1 of my 'Stock HU info' thread here on NASIOC -- you'll find many examples. Basically, once you get any corner of the fascia to pop out, the rest is very easy. If your weather is still cold, just take a trip to a store and back to heat up your interior before you start.

I don't know what method you're planning to "tap" into your speaker wires without "butchering", but I can't imagine anything that would provide high-quality connections with less effort than connecting behind the HU. Trust me -- from comments I've received from people over the years, you don't want to go yanking on those tightly-bound harness bundles under the dash and out around the kick panels.

How difficult of a job is this?
You'll want my new combined "breakout" harness with Toyota-style connectors. You can use that either of two ways:
A) Cut off the long leg (the "T") of your older OEM sub T-harness, and graft that onto my combined harness. So you'll be converting the older T-harness into one for the FT nav.

B) Take either a 14-pin or 20-pin "forward" harness (the same type you would use to install an aftermarket HU into an older Subaru) -- whichever kind of connector your older sub T-harness has -- and graft that onto my breakout harness. Then simply plug the old T-harness into that connector, and install my breakout harness behind the FT nav HU. The 14- or 20-pin harness need only have 6 wires (power, ground, and one pair of speakers) -- the same 6 that the OEM T-harness taps.
The advantage of 'B' is that you preserve the old T-harness, so in the likely event that you decide to remove the OEM sub, its harness will still be intact for the person you sell it to. Even if the sub dies (or arrives DOA from wherever you bought it), there will always still be people interested in buying a whole OEM T-harness.

If you go with 'A', people will also be interested in buying the portion with the 14- or 20-pin connectors that you cut off.

As for 'how hard to install', it's really not very difficult. See Subaru's and other people's install guides (see post #1 in my 'Subaru stock HU into' thread).

Your Legacy has something Subaru calls the "LAN Module", which converts the signals from the steering wheel controls to digital data sent into the GX-201 HU's 20-pin port. You can bypass that module to connect your SWCs directly to a steering wheel interface module (ASWC-1, PAC, Maestro, Connects2, etc., or to a later Subaru HU that doesn't need the LAN module, or to an aftermarket HU that has the equivalent programmable interface built-in).

See this thread: Steering Wheel Interface - MY04 Outback (answers worked out around posts 17-25 there).

I have a 2014 wrx and I've just installed the 2014 crosstrek radio model CM631UD. From what I've heard, this unit should have the sub output in the rear of the unit. If this is correct, which harness would I need? I want to install either the oem underseat subwoofer or the kicker optional subwoofer.

Thx for any help!

I'm not 100% clear on which wires on which harness you're talking about. I'd need to see pictures.

But since you started by cutting off the factory radio harness, I suspect you've blown the fuse in the engine bay for the +12V Battery lead (constant-on power, pin #6). You wouldn't be the first person that's happened to. You'll find a few other things in your car no longer work also.

I can confirm that your 2001 does not have either an antenna booster amplifier or a motorized power antenna (so no need for pin 14 on the car's original 14-pin radio harness). If you're saying there was a factory brown wire there, I have no idea what that is.

CM631UD does not have the line-level sub out. See my post here.

However, to add Subaru's under-seat or Kicker subs, you don't need that -- those subs simply connect between the car's factory radio harness and the HU's socket. See post #4 in my 'Subaru stock HU Info' thread.

I have this HU also on my Hybrid it's a 622 (FM622US). I already have some complaints about it. Primarily is I want a way to sort the options on the screen. I want to get rid of the AHA for one thing by putting it on the last page. Is there a way to get to any secret menu or just more info on modding it???

Default Help with this connector

New here, was directed to come and join by a friend, so I am hoping someone here can help.

I am trying to find some information on this 8 pin black and white connector. This connector is used in Alpine navigation units, which came factory in Honda Accords. It turns out, this connector is also used in some Subaru vehicles, for an aux or a subwoofer connection.

Is there anyone in the forum who can perhaps tell me who makes it, or the model or part number of the connector?

This is the connector from my Alpine navigation dvd drive

I bought a 2011 STI that was ordered with navigation and the media hub from the factory by the previous owner. In my center console, I have the aux pod with three RCA A/V inputs and a female USB A port. I want to be able to play music from my phone through the car's system, but since I have an Android phone, the "media" option in the head unit won't recognize my phone when I use the USB port, and as far as I can tell, the A/V inputs will only work if they detect a video signal in addition to right and left audio. I tried using a working R/L RCA-to-3.5mm stereo cable with my phone and got nothing but silence out of the car. I couldn't even get the AUX/Video option to display on the headunit. When I navigated to the "connections" tab in the hidden dealer diagnostics menu, the "AUX" option displayed "NC" (not connected?).

After digging through the forums and finding a lot of good info in SXVdc's many posts on many Subaru forums, I convinced myself that replacing my aux pod (p/n H621SFG610) with the 3.5mm stereo + USB pod (p/n H621SAJ220) would do the trick. I pulled my console apart, unplugged the harness from the existing pod and plugged it into my new aux pod. I plugged a 3.5mm stereo patch cable into the pod and into my phone and I was excited to see that the headunit was now displaying an AUX/Video option. Navigating back to the dealer diagnostics menu, the "AUX" option now displayed "connected".

At this point, I was feeling like I had this thing solved. After queuing up some music on my phone, though, I only got sound out of the passenger speakers. Navigating through the EQ, fader, and setup menus yielded nothing. I tried two more known working patch cables and still only got sound on the passenger side.

So now I'm left thinking one of two things. One would be that the new aux pod I bought from the dealer yesterday is no good. I think this is really unlikely, but I have no good way to verify this. The other thought is that there's something unique to the media hub harness that won't work with the aux pod I bought. The six pin connectors in the back are identical, and it would seem silly for Subaru to lay them out differently (with the exception of the video input), but I can't be sure. Without a wiring diagram of both pods and the media hub harness, I have no good way of verifying this either.

I guess my question is this: does anyone know any reason why the aux input pod with the 3.5mm stereo jack and USB port would be incompatible with the media hub/navi combo? If they are incompatible, is there a way to add a standard 3.5mm aux input without replacing the headunit? If I have to go that far, that will be one more incentive to put a Nexus tablet in the dash.

SVXdc I sent you an e-mail a few days ago about what I would like to purchase for my 2015 WRX STi launch edition. Is this something you can help me with or is the car too new? I provided all the information in the e-mail, but here it is again for reference:

Quote:
First, here is the info you requested on your webpage:

1. 2015
2. WRX STI
3. CV629UM
4. 2015 WRX STI, CV629UM, installing Pioneer AVIC-6000NEX (no additional amp, only using what's included in the kicker upgrade package)
5. I need the appropriate harness, ASWC steering wheel module, part to retain factory USB socket and factory AUX jack, and part to retain OEM sub (H630SFJ200) (so I can drive it from the sub output of the Pioneer head unit's RCA jacks). I want to retain as much OEM functionality as possible, so if you think I'm missing anything please let me know.
6. USPS is fine.
7. Ryan Chua
16 Madison Ave. Apt. 1
Beverly, MA 01915
8. N/A
9. Whatever is easiest for you.
10. Google searching a ton before buying my car!
11. Haven't talked to you, but I'm iwsti.com as username bsmack.

Now I know from reading that I will have to install another bluetooth mic since the factory one is essentially unusable. I do plan on buying the Sirius adapter for the head unit (SXV200). Will the OEM antenna hook into it since the car is already equipped with Sirius? I would rather not run another antenna if I don't need to. I know this car is extremely new, so if you need additional information, please feel free to ask.
I also would be interested in the parking brake bypass. What do you think? Can you help me or should I take my car to a shop to get it done? Would really like to be able to do this myself (with your help)!

there appears to be 2 different part numbers H621SFG700 & H621SFG750, whats the difference and which is the right one?

*edit* just got of the phone with my dealership is appears the H621SFG700 is the older model kit and the newest and most recent is the H621SFG750.

Did anyone answer this question - will the H621SFG700 media hub work with the Kenwood sat nav? This is a looooong post and I can't seem to find a response anywhere unfortunately.

Does anyone know if the diagrams from modifiiedlife (.com) are reliable/accurate?

I attached a high level converter to the stock headunit based on their info. Want to make sure theyre a reliable source of info.

also, I just found out that the 'antenna' wire(yellow/black) from the stock head unit will only work on am/fm? so it cant be used to power on the aftermarket amplifier.
Which wire could I tap into for the remote lead of the amp?

This is a 2012 subaru impreza 2.0 base model, aftermarket amp and sub, high level input converter.

thanks

EDIT:
the wiring i have is
LR+ red/black
LR- white/red
RR+ red/white
RR- gray/green

plus the remote lead to yellow/black

The info Ihad seems incorrect.
On the ae 6420 pin out page (cant link not enough posts)
the positives and negatives are reversed from what I have, but the diagram is listed as 2008-2011....?
Can anyone confirm the actual correct wires?
Thanks again
