Have a Nice Day? WRX/STI drivers behaving badly ~ reckless drivers

Here's a couple local news stories I came across pertaining to WRX/STI drivers making the news for all the wrong reasons. I guess reckless drivers like these are the reason my insurance is so high.

Feel free to share some news stories you come across as well.

That first one seems to be more about 2 cops behaving badly.

But only 12 months for killing a man? Really? And if the offender hadn't been a cop would he have only gotten 12 months in jail? That story didn't even mention the Subaru. You could tell from the video that that's what it was, but the story itself didn't mention the vehicles like the 2nd one did.

And I don't have high insurance on my WRX. So, it's more locality-based than reputation. Insurance companies adjust premiums for vehicle type based on actual incidence rates, not perceived reputation.

well at least car insurance is a risk based system unlike health care where you can consume $500,000 a year in resources and an insurer is federally mandated to give you the same premium as someone who doesn't live on Doritos and Red Bull.

Yea 3-12 months for killing someone is crazy. I'm sure he will be out early too. Cops "take care of their own" I guess
And yea I used context clues (the video) to determine he was driving a 15+ WRX

As rtv can probably attest to insurance rates in Philly aren't exactly cheap. My premium went up quite a bit since moving inside city limits.

yeah in any city they are higher.
I don't actually live in the city though so mine are fine.

regardless, I have no issue with paying any insurance premium that is risk based and gives an individual the full ability to lower paying into that system if they don't like it.

Imagine public outcry if a guy with a couple Ferraris, Bentleys and Porsches was not allowed to be charged more money for car insurance than a guy with an old Buick Skylark to go to work in and nothing more.
Whatever politician suggested that plan would be swept out of office within nanoseconds.

I live on the other end North/South-wise from you. Biggest PA city to me is Scranton.

This is a dumb post and if anything this is bringing bad attention. These idiots could have been in any car and I guarantee these same situations have happened in all brands of cars. Those cops deserve worse than the average person in my eyes!!! There supposed to uphold the law and set an example, all the time not just when in uniform. And why was the girl in the second story charged with 2 counts of dui? Did she get into a second car and get caught? Maybe second offense?

Car insurance is based on a ton of things. The insurance companies know how likely they are to have a loss. Live somewhere that you're likely to file a claim because you have random bullet holes in your car one month, have your car stolen and found the next month, then it gets set on fire, then sure, you should be paying $12k a year.

I live in the 2nd lowest risk town in my state and have most of the discounts available because of my situation. It's why my Lotus full coverage with half a million in liability cost me $700 a year. That's even in a car where if I hit a raccoon, it will literally total the car.

these same situations have happened in all cars, on bikes, on horses, probably on kangaroos once or twice, on scooters, on foot, on segways, and roller skates.

Well, so who won the Drag Race?

It just says he hit somebody, it didn't say whether this was after winning/losing or during the race. **** reporting.

And, at least around tri state, most Subaru rates went up a couple years after the WRX came out. Partly (my opinion) a different demographic bought into them and then had higher insurance claims. Part of what I and others call, "the Honda crowd" since they could buy something faster for a little more money.
Right after this, the tales of "glass trannies" arose since they were used to doing clutch dumps and not breaking things.
Yes, the trans could blow if mishandled.
On most Subaru forums with these claims, they were new to AWD and came from Honda or similar.

Not all newbs, but enough to make insurance take notice.

Well you did start a topic to bring attention to a couple news articles that you thought were negative towards us Wrx/sti owners, and if anything it’s dumb drunk people and stupid cops abusing there authority. It just so happens they have the same cars as us. Again this isn’t a Subaru issue as much as it is an issue with idiots and now you have attached wrx/sti owners to it. So when those random google searches turn up this topic it just make us look bad. This is all just my opinion of course. And there was no public shaming, I didn’t call you or anyone else out !! Your just a bit sensitive!!

I was referring to the fact I'm public shaming the people in these articles. My comment was not directed towards you. You're* being a bit defensive

Let's get back to talking about dumb people who drive the same car as us

Wasn't the WRX the most ticketed vehicle in the U.S. a few years back according to insurance provider statistics?

only if the stat was based on tickets per vehicle
it can't be just plain most ticketed, I don't care who's driving them

Not to mention more Mustangs and Cameros.

At the weekly car meet in Phoenix, the most pulled-over vehicle at that meet was the Mustang. Local cops just hung out visible but blacked out on the other side of the street from the entrance and waited for the Mustangs to start doing burnout launches.

VROOOM! VROOM! *tire smoke* SQEEEE!!!

*stang launches*

*WOOO!* blue lights take off after it like a raped ape.

Even the flatbill "Slammed is dope, brah" knuckleheads ruining their STIs with bags and ebay parts knew better than to do that stuff.

You're already an idiot if you're going to Pavilions regardless of what you do in your car.....
