Wedding gift etiquette: cash checks before the wedding?
I'm getting married on Saturday, and a few people who were unable to attend the wedding have sent cards with checks inside. Is it bad form to cash those checks before the wedding? I didn't give it a second thought when I cashed the first one last week, but I thought about it this morning (I have two more) and though I might be breaking some kind of unwritten wedding gift rule.
Sharky? Anyone?

Considering if you are left at the altar you are supposed to return that money... yes.

I don't think it really matters, but strict rules of etiquette would probably say to wait till after the wedding to cash them.

I will say that if you are getting married sat, you are probably fine to cash the checks since it is so close to the wedding. They might not even notice (or it might not even hit) until next week.

the only reason I would say DON'T wait is that I personally HATE having outstanding checks out there, it screws with my budgeting.

It's bad etiquette, bad karma, and makes you look greedy and like a poor money manager. Wait a few days, sheeesh. If youre going on honeymoon on Sunday, have a trusted person take them to the bank on Monday. |

Is it bad etiquette to give the bride and groom a post dated check for 1 year and if they are still married, they can cash it?
