Does that mean Tommi is retiring? I didn't catch anything that said that. Is Subaru going to go with a three car spread next year or stay with the current two? That's what's wiping our team out in the points, two cars vs. three... come on man!

check out www.swrt.com
Yes Makinen is retiring and Burns is coming back
http://www.swrt.com/434612.html http://www.swrt.com/434309.html And as far as I recall Toshi Arai is also racing for subaru he just is not in the lime light like tommi and peter. so that makes three. Let us all not forget to Wish Peter a happy marriage since he just got hitched on sat. |

Hey, firedog, you missed this part:
The news follows the announcement earlier today that 39-year-old Tommi Makinen will retire from World Championship rallying at the end of the season, having spent the past two years with the 555 Subaru World Rally Team. |

Well, sort of, he's currently first in the Group N standings. Good to see Burns coming back. I know some people didn't really care for him too much, but he is very good. I still like Petter better though! Tommi's decision to retire is not surprising. He just doesn't seem to have the desire any more. |

is Tommi retiring because he wants to, or is there nobody willing to give him a contract? He has certainly been performing like a has-been. It would sure be nice to see Subaru get a driver's and manufacturer's title again. <--Way to state the obvious, eh?

A "has-been"??? I'm willing to bet Makinen can still out-drive about 99.9999992% of the planet, including, most likely, everyone on this board. He still also seems to have been able to claim some points this year. So I certainly don't think he deserves the disrespect of calling him a "has-been".
As for Burns, well I've always liked him. I can't see why he would be any more expensive than Makinen though. I mean, if you compare the two historically, Burns isn't even in the same league as Tommi...yet. |

Maybe its just me, but I was thrilled when the crybaby Burns left. I have never met anybody who complained more than that guy. Petter is full of life, Gronholm is a complete straight shooter, but Burns is always playing an angle. I cant be the only person who things this way...... anyone..... Buler.....

I have a trick for you all...
I even taught my dog to make funny noises when we say "Richard Burns" hahaha, she growls and sqeeks! Not that I dislike him persay, just that I look at him as a Metalica type... Only in it for the money not the fun of it. I mean most of us pay thousands just to go drifting on a dirt raod or start to get our skills up and he gets to do this for a living and make millions doing it. On a side note we also taught our dog to make a boxer engine grumble when we ask her what a subaru sounds like! I love this dog. Japanese Shiba Inu for those who wonder, best dogs on the planet!!!

I do tend to agree he can be a bit of a crybaby. However, I try to ignore most sports interviews anyway. How often do any of these guys say anything really profound.

And now for the really controvertial statement: It could also be that the Subarus aren't as competative either (and this is coming from a LONG time Sube owner/fan). It seems to me that the GDs just haven't been doing as well as the GCs in general. Now maybe that's because the other cars have gotten that much better, but it could also be because the GDs put on a little too much weight. However this is all just conjecture, so take it as worth a grain of salt. |

Sounds great to me! Have only been watching the WRC over the last two seasons, but I think that Petter and Richard will make a great team. I love watching the WRC regardless, but I love it a lot more when there is a Suby still competing for the top three spots. Either way, I am sure we are all in for a fun time next year. Need to get Subaru back up to the top. WERD!

Ah yes, I miss read "simile. I suppose I should up my carrot intake, or decrease my monitor resolution to something below 2048x1536. I thought that was a dumb comment about the smilies. Must get more sleep!!!

Yawn
Burns goes well, but he's just so boring. Petter has so much charisma, watching him go nuts when he took second in Finland almost brought tears to my eyes. Burns doesn't seem to get excited about much of anything.
