Default Apparently Car and Driver thinks Subaru drivers are hippies...

Some quotes from the March 2005 issue's preview of the B9 Tribeca:

Quote:
So, with both the Outback wagon and Forester SUV capable of holding just five Phish fans, the only solution was to build a new tour bus.
Quote:
Furthermore, the dash sports ... a seven-inch screen that'll direct you to the closest Whole Foods Market if the car is equipped with the available navigation system.
Quote:
For second- and third-row occupants, there's an optional DVD entertainment system that includes a ceiling-mounted nine-inch screen -- perfect for enjoying the Grateful Dead's View from the Vault ...
Quote:
... the B9 is impressively flat through turns and treats passengers to a compliant ride that still offers enough firmness to encourage you to take the back roads to Woodstock.
I mean, sure we all know that Forester drivers are by and large lesbians , but...

I live next to an ex-hippie who drives a Honda Insight, he says my car is the polar opposite of his ( loud, bad on gas, fast) and that it will help kill off the Earth that much quicker. I laugh and tell him that it must suck that his Eco-car is getting offset by my gas guzzling WRX

You better watch out, we have kinda similar tastes in music. Leo Kottke+Mike Gordon (Phish bassist) is my new favorite listening material right now.

Wow, you get 24 MPG in your STi?

I get about 7 MPG in my WRX... 'course that's at the race track... but that's pretty much the only place I really drive it these days anyway!

I kind fell out of listening to the Dead about six years ago. Sounds like an article built with a stereotype the author just decided to repeat over and over.

I've always kind of thought it strange how Subaru being a niche company has managed to combine two fairly different buyer groups with their products that use a lot of shared parts. Like harley also building cheeky motorscooters or something.

I'd peg a Prius to be much more of a hippy car than a B9 or any Subaru for that matter. Or the Element, it's like the second coming of the Microbus for god sake. There are plenty of cars that are more "hippy" or "alternative" than a Subaru is.

Nice to see that he's still got his copy of the "Big Book of Stereotypes." Its also nice to see that he still hasn't let facts get in the way of his writing.

Admit it people....WRX and STi are not for everyone. Thank goodness for that. Overall, I thought the article was good promoting the Outback (or Legacy, really, which we all seem to like. ). Stop the flaming.

edit: I just think he needs to dump all his "old friends" who sound like the real morons with their stereotypes.

edit:edit: I thought the C&D article was a little over the top, too. I guess not enough advertising placed in the C&D by Subaru recently . If there was a four-page ad of the B9 in there, you'd hear more of "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"

The WRX and STI are for too many people as it is; I miss my RS...

But I guess it's all good for Subaru, so I'll quit complaining.
