I have the exact opposite problem you've described. My fob will unlock no problem, but won't lock at all (so I know it's not the battery). Did you solve this problem? If so, how exactly? Thanks.

You need a new remote. Or if you're handy with soldering onto a circuit board do that. Take your remote apart and I'm sure the actual button on the board will fall right off. Happens all the time on that style remote.

I agree...if you drop them too many times, the little button comes off the circuit board. If you get it just right on all four tabs, sometimes it will work again..... |

How do I get my parking lights to flash when I turn the alarm on? Also, the security light on my cluster is always on. Why is that?

For some reason the trunk button on my FOB wont open the trunk. I don't think its a problem with the FOB because the trunk button will put it in/out of valet mode.
I looked around in the trunk, and there is a blue clip hanging from the bottom of the trunk lid, but i cant find anywhere to plug it in.. I've been searching online for about an hour now, with no solution.. Any suggestions? |

If yes, the trunk fob only unlocks the trunk and nothing else (driver/pass doors), and does not automatically open. |

Your remote is the new replacement remote and the trunk button is used to put the vehicle in and out of valet mode. It is operating properly |

Car is a 2004 STI.
The key fob was acting up (lock and unlock buttons didn't work most of the time unless I mashed the buttons... but the red light still lit up), so I replaced the battery. Seemed to do the trick. 5 months later it's doing it again. First thing I did was replace the battery, but this time it did nothing to solve the issue. So I dissected the fob to check the circuit connections, which appears to be all intact. Any ideas? I can still open the doors with it after hitting the button about a hundred times (I wish I was exaggerating). I'll use the key in the meantime, but any advice would be great. Thanks! |

Bump. Anyone?
Tried reprogramming the remote. Did nothing. Any ideas would be great before I resort to buying a new remote. |

I have a 2005 baja that automatically arms after I close the door. The owners manual states that I need to take it to a subaru dealer to change that. What is the programming procedure to change that?
Also, I keep seeing these 2009 subaru keys with the remote built into them. Has anyone tried programming these for a 2005 subaru of any type? Will it work? mm |

After reading every page in this thread I wanted to contribute.
Bought a Key fob for my 06 WRX off ebay from "keys_star" put a battery in it and spent 2 hours try to get it to program. It absoulty would NOT beep. Solution: I disabled the alarm then reinabled it. Unpluged the 'keyless entry system' under the drivers dash and unpluged the chime in the front of the grill, plugged both back in after insuring the connection was good, and then did the long process listed in the first post. My wrex is 7/05 and I had to use the 06+ method. Walah! It works! |

Hi. I have an 02 WRX bugeye wagon. I've read most of the thread and gone through several others trying to reprogram my remote to get it to work. As far as I can tell, I don't have a security light one my dash. I looked under the hood and found the alarm horn and also under the center console and found the security box. I checked some fuses to make sure that the box was getting power. I even disconnected the battery to make sure the car wasn't in valet mode. Also I know the remote works to some extent, because the light lights up when I push a button. I can't get the car into programming mode though no matter what I do. So I'm stumped and would greatly appreciate some help. Thanks.

I have a 2007 Impreza 2.5i. For the life of me I cannot get the car to go into program mode. Is there some special way one needs to turn the key. Should the key be in the ignition when I open and close the door?
The stupid dealership wanted to charge me $50 per remote just to program them because I already have a couple of used remotes... since I spent a ghastly amount of money having non-transponder keys cut- I couldn't let myself knowing there was a manual way that I hadn't gotten working yet. This is an apparent variant of the instructions widely distributed. This worked on a 2007 Impreza 2.5i 1) Make sure everything is shut (same as other instruction). 2) Get in, sit down, shut door (same as other instruction). 3) Open and shut door (same as other) 4) Put key in Ignition and turn key from "lock" to "on" 10 times, and finish in "lock" (slightly different from described) - no tones or flashing lights occur as described 5) Open and shut door - a faint tone is heard 6) Enter numbers as directed. Push lock the number of times that equals the value, then unlock between each digit. - a tone is heard for each press 7) After <unlock> of last digit of the first sequence, hit unlock an additional time. - tone flutters 8) Reenter sequence. - tone for each press 9) for additional remotes or to push other codes out skip to 9a) 10) Open and shut door - long tone 11) Remove ignition key 9a) Open and shut door 9b) Enter first sequence as described above 9c) After <unlock> of last digit of the first sequence, hit unlock an additional time. 9d) Reenter sequence. 9e) Continue to step 10 or 9a |

Help!
I have an '08 Legacy GT and got an uncut blank key with remote. Before cutting the key, I was able to reprogram the remote as per the instructions and it works fine for locking, unlocking, unlocking the trunk, and the panic. After the key was cut, the starter is now disabled. It's somehow in immobilized mode. I tried to close all the doors and locked the car with the remote, then use the remote to unlock it, then after entering the car, close the doors and as soon as I put the key in the ignition the security light is solid and can turn the key to acc, on, and start, but it does nothing. Then I tried the 3 turns quick, and the starter will turn over, but the car fails to start. I will try these steps with the cut key and report back my results: 1) Make sure everything is shut (same as other instruction). 9e) Continue to step 10 or 9a Last edited by WRXncrew; 01-04-2013 at 02:50 PM. No go. The remote programming works, but it didn't work for the immobilizer. I called a mobile locksmith and they quoted me $70 to add the immobilizer with the key. They also said I need to bring them all the keys including the valet key to make sure they all will start the car after programming it. Apparently, they have to add the immobilizer code via the vehicle VIN probably using an OBDII interface (i'd imagine).
I found this: https://subarudealers.locksmithsdrm....cement_key.pdf Anyone know anything else about this? Quote:

The remote and immobilizer are two totally separate things. You were able to program the remote, but the immobilizer needs to be programmed by computer....there is no way for you to do it. It's a high security key, so it needs to be programmed by computer.
It is true that all your keys will need to be programmed at the same time, otherwise they will not work to start the car. Also, you may be required to provide proof of ownership of the vehicle before they will program the keys to the car..... |
