Default Wiper Upgrade

I hope this is the right forum...

These gc (gm) wipers REALLY SUCK and I need to get rid of them they're a major safety hazard in the rain. I was looking into fixing but there is a lot about it and they're really all jacked up. Can I just replace them with a newer year impreza wiper system? They don't appear to work the same but I'm hoping the interior parts are the same.

It seems like the main wiper bushing is stripped (not motor or solenoid) from what I read but I popped off the main nut and the cover and its way more intricate than I thought it would be so I would rather replace the whole mechanism with a newer year like 05+.

Can this be done and has it? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, can you ask him to find the little whitish bushing and ask if he'd part with just that? Should look like this...

Thanks rain-x might help a little but the wipers hit both the lower cowl and the A pillar. I've had wipers and cowl off but I think the bushings are in the linkage and not the wiper mounts. It has hit the a pillar so hard a few times it has broken off wiper blades, and going over 60mph it can get stuck on the outside of the A pillar.

On the 04 it looks like where 6, 8, and 10 meet is different which I think eliminates the bushing problem. My thing is after this fix I don't want the problem to come back ever, which is why I am looking to upgrade the whole wiper assy and not just the linkage/bushings.

Whoah! That sucks man. I wish I knew more so I could help. Any luck tracking the bushing down online? What part number is it in the diagram?

I have a general bag of assorted wiper bushings which supposedly has a few I could use while breaking down the assembly. Still I am looking at the 2 mount from the 03 being the same place on both... And the mounting points below it in hopes to swap out the whole unit for better general functionality.

Yea I posted over there that's where I got most of my info but again that was more for the bushing(s) fix rather than full swap.

It's actually an R title with a new rear clip so who knows what happened with the POs.

Update. My builder says I should just replace with all new wiper linkage from my year, however I have another friend who has a complete linkage set from an 02.

There is actually quite a lot of matchups from 99s and bugeyes... I am reallllllly wondering if they're interchangeable but I can't seem to find the 99 wiper dwgs online anywhere.

^^Thanks!! I am thinking they are not the same or interchangeable? Look at 9 and 10, is it close? A lot of things line up with bugeyes so far but I'm thinking no for the wipers.

Replace the wiper bushing and then use Bosch Icon wiper blades. Problem solved.

It's not about the blades at all, but do you know which number on the dwg refers to the bushing? I have heard there are more than one since the wipers hit the cowl and a pillar.

I am thinking its where the motor meets the linkage near the number 11 but not where 11 points. Which means I'll prob have to tear it down to the motor and that defeats the purpose of replacing the whole linkage even if it is with the same model year.

So another member has let me know that the bolt pattern for 04+ have different mount points but I am still unsure if bugeye linkage will fit or if it's different.

At this point it looks like I'll either be replacing a whole new 99 linkage or just the bushings that are making it sloppy.

Buy rainx. Not just the washer fluid. Buy the actual stuff and it will be night and day if applied correctly. Easy to apply as well takes about 10-20 min for all the windows.
