Kapafool, WRXnFX1974 & everyone else
Kapafool- Glad I found you. You owe me big!!! I know it was some devious plot of yours. Showing me your car and talking about it like it was sooooo HOT! You knew I wouldn't be able to resist. I spent two weeks getting the boss to say ok. Buttttt.... she still hasn't told me when. I want to bring her to the meet on the 27th. I'll introduce you as the guy who made me want to spend $27k when we're thinking about buying a house. I'll see how YOU handle the "hot seat"!
With that said, I'll move on. WRXnFX1974- Well done on getting this forum started. That also goes to everyone that posted to the thread in the general forum. i-club probably got tired of it being there. Especially after the thread broke the 100,000 post. To the group as a whole.- If I can make the meet on the 27th and bring my wife along, feel free to help in my mission to buy a WRX. She's already said I could get one but it may not be soon. Just remember, in dealing with her everything is "subtle". She takes to strong arm tactics about as well as farting in church. Oh... and DON"T say anything about spending $$$ on aftermarket parts. That would be very bad ju-ju for me at this time. Seriously, I plan on making the meet and want to bring the misses along so she can see the cars. Will anyone else have wifes and girlfriends with them? I don't want her to be there and not have other ladies to talk with. She'll be bored with the cars in about 15 minutes.

That's amateur Kris. You can't say awd or the other stuff because you're gonna sound too knowledgeable and it'll sound like a con. sheesh...what were you thinking.

Kris- Thanks, but I think Eric is right. Her eyes start to glaze over when I mention keeping proper air pressure in the tires. If I said AWD, ABS and Air Bags all in the same conversation I'd have to take to the hospital in a coma.
Eric- Resbum stands for Reserve Bum. I was in the AF Reserves for 10 years before joining the AK Air Guard. I did it full time as a part timer, hence the tag Reserve Bum. I really like your idea though,... Rescue Bum. It kinda has a nice sound to it. Winslow- Maybe your girlfriend might be able to impart some of her interest in cars on my wife. If nothing else, distract her while I talk with you guys about how to spend fast. I kinda hit a stumbling block today about going to the meeting. It was a MAJOR Homer Simpson. D'ohp!!!! On the way to the store I said, " Hey, all the Subaru guys are having their meeting on the 27th of Jan. I want you to go to it so you can see all the cars." And she said with EMPHASIS, " The 27th is my birthday!!!" Like I said, "D'ohp!" It was really quite in the car for a few seconds before I came up with some lame comment about buying her lunch at Red Robins. We'll see how things go. At the least, I think she'll let me go to it for a while. |

I hope you will still be able to attend. Tell her your going to Red Robin for birthday lunch and we'll tell them it's her birthday. You're lucky to be alive. I can't believe you forgot your wife's birthday.

Can't believe I forgot, myself!
Yea, I was sweating bullets there for a few minutes. Hell, you can't blame me. I'm kinda new to this marriage stuff and I have a hard time remembering my own birthday. Besides, we're talking about cars here. That's enough to distract any red blooded guy. We'll probably show up, even if it's just for a little while.
Kris- Sorry I didn't call back on Sunday. Duty called at 6:30 AM and I had to go into work, which took up most of the day. I'll be off work from the 18th to the 23rd of Jan. Maybe we can get together then at some point when you guys are working on someone's car. As I told Winslow, "I'm always willing to turn a wrench, so don't hesitate to call if you need help". |

This also goes out to AK_WRX. I think the next item of business for my car is going to be the gauges. They should be here this week. If the MRT order comes in then we will be busy again with exhaust mods. There is always work to be done.
Funny how you titled this thread. We can never go off topic!!! Winslow |

Wiring is my specialty
Winslow - Man, I've got wiring down. On my Toyota truck- 100W pencil beam lights, 100W wide angle lights, 55W backup lights, electric fan, 110db horns. All fused & through relays. MSD 6A Ignition. I showhorned in a 120 amp Delco alt. Made my own 8 terminal brass power bus. VDO tach & oil pres gauges. I can solder like a mad dog! I have the tray mounted waiting for the second battery. Nice stereo w/ six speakers and x-overs. CB radio w/ tuned coax and antenna.
Bring on your stinkin' gauges! I'll eat 'em for a snack and then look for the electrical main coarse! Seriously, let me know if I can help. I've got a couple of books on automotive electrical. All the math for figuring power consumption, wire gauges, etc... Just remember... a bad ground is the leading cause of electrical problems and it's the most over looked item when it comes to fixing a problem. As for the title of my thread. I can't even stay on topic through one post. I'm sure as hell not going to try it for a whole thread. How 'bout those Mariners? Damn... see what I mean! |

Sounds like you have been busy on your truck. I can see why your wife is hesitant to let you get a WRX. I can read your enthusiasm. Sorry, Kris left you out of our weekend fun this weekend. It's my fault, too. You mention math and electrical power consumption. I'm a bit rusty but I could use your help on an upcoming project/mod that I would like to create.

I'm ready when you are
Winslow - 2:30AM post. Up late or up early?
Kris didn't leave me out of the loop. I talked to him Sat evening on the phone and he said that you guys would be working on stuff Sun and to give a call. Unfortunately, I got a call from work 6:30 Sun morning and then couldn't make it over. The truck's been my on going project for the last six years so I've had plenty of time to do all that stuff. Electronics was my field of choice in college. Once I started working I found that I couldn't stand it. That's how I ended up in the Reserves and Guard. $$$$ on education is always well spent, but I sure wasted mine spending it on electronic technology. "...an upcoming project/mod that I would like to create." You got my attention. What do you have in mind? Hopefully something cool like Counter-radar Evading Capacitor's!!! |

Kapafool a Trekkie?!?!
RallyX13 - Please tell me that Kapafool isn't a closet "Trekkie". I was just starting to like the guy.
Can you see him with pointed ears saying, "That is totally illogical, Winslow." Gawd,... I crack myself up! Kapafool - I've been working alot of nights lately but will be on day shift Weds. Are going to be around iso(#1221) then? If so, you want to go to lunch Weds.? |

Resbum: I'm ususally up late at night replying to these posts. Plus, homework keeps me up. I spent eight years in the Air Force working electronics. You can imagine how bored I get looking at that stuff. But, when it comes to something for the car, you can count on me being focused. I'll PM you with me idea. It isn't worthy of this forum. There are a few of us that want to come over tonight. Are you busy? Wanna do some port polishing?

Not being Top-Secret. Yes, Kris is going to be out of town. Good thing you got your BOV installed then because you would have to wait until next week. I'm still trying to work out the details but I'll call you and let you know. Winslow

Winslow, are you gonna help me with headlights? I gots the paint and a tool to port the TB.
Resbum - I think you are the gauge expert here. I need some info on the EGT sensor and AF sensor from Autometer. I am ordering an EGT gauge soon and there is some stuff I need clarification on. (whew, I hope its spelled right.) |
