Default New e-bay FMIC...not made from Burmese Soda cans.

SSAC (ebay FMIC) FAQ:

Step By Step Installation instructions by sick1.8t

Q:Who makes this kit?
A:The kit is made my XS Power and sold by them ans SSAutoChrome on ebay.

Q:Where can I buy this kit?
A:You can purchase the kit from www.SSAutoChrome.com or from their Ebay Store and you can also search ebay for "scooby fmic" to find the kit. You can also email DeeDee to purchase the kit at [email protected]

Q:How much is the kit?
A:[OLD ANSWER]As of July 31, 2006 the kit can be purchased from www.SSAutoChrome.com for $379.00 shipped but some have gotten it off ebay for $350.00 shipped.
A:Feb 2007:You can email SSAC and get the FMIC for $295.00 shipped or you can purchase it here.
http://app.infopia.com/Shop/Control/...d/0/rid/123710

Q:What else do I need to purchase?
A:
1) If you plan to use the stock BPV you need a WBR Bov Adapter (aqka:TurboXS BOV Adapter flange)

2) Any type of cone filter. Pepboys sell a universal K&N cone filter but any 3inch outlet cone filter should work.

3) A 2.5"-2.75" silicone REDUCER. Search ebay.

4) A 1 1/4inch 90deg elbow hose to attach your stock BPV to the FMIC piping.

5) Some of the newer kits seem to have a problem with the 90deg elbow that attaches to the turbo so one might need to be purchased. Your best bet it to try the elbow on your turbo before trying to install everything. The elbow should be 2inch to 2.5inch 90deg elbow.

Q:Will my Intake work with this FMIC?
A:It's been confirmed the Perrin shortram, SPT and the Cobb Short Ram fit correctly. Most shortram intakes "should" fit but any CAI is out of the question since the piping uses the same hole in the fender well as the CAI do.

Q: Is the provided intake any good?
A: It's a 70mm that tapers to 65mm. It works about as well as the stock box does.
ADDED NOTE:Be sure to check the MAF adapter for air leaks. The rubber gasket provided with the intake is rather cheesy but can be fixed with a little silicone.

Q:This is a direct bolton kit?
A:Like most stuff even bolton kits require minor modifications. This kit will require you to cut your bumper to fit the IC behind it. You will also need to put on a new coolent overflow (provided in the kit). Some I have heared needed to lower their fuel filter a bit to get the kit in.

Q:Where is the install manual?
A:Intallation Manual

Q:Can I keep my fog lights?
A:Yes. ALL years (2002 to 2006) can retain their fog lamps.

Q: Does the kit say XS Power on it?
A:Not anymore. The kits in the beginning cam with "XS Power" spray painted on the IC but SSAC has stopped doing that.

Q:How are the other ebay FMIC kits?
A:This thread is NOT about them. This thread deals with the SSAC FMIC only. If you want feel free to start a new thread for the other kits.

Q:How can I stop my couplers from popping off a high boost?
A:Matth3w came up with a good idea.

When I took my turbo kit apart I had to damn near put the **** in a vice to get it off, and never once had IC piping pop off.
Q:What year car will this FMIC fit?
A:2002 to 2006 WRX & STi (should fit the 2007 but I haven't seen anyone test it yet)

Q:Will my BOV work with this FMIC?
A:Any BOV that will normally attach to a TMIC "should" bolt on if you buy the flange.

Q: How do I cut the bumper?
A: You need to fit it, take it off, cut more, test fit it again to see where it rubs or interferes, cut more, over and over, rinse and repeat. You can look at pictures that others have posted to get a general idea of where you are cutting, but you won't really "get it" until it you're doing it.
Use this Dremel bit, cuts through the plastic like butter:

It's a shame this thread was closed so quickly with any regards to the valued information inside it. I think it was poorly handled and thats all I'm going to say about that.

Now since these are back for sale on ebay I thought it would be good to keep the thread alive for new people. Does anyone know if the new kits come with the reducer or do you still need to pick one up?

I'm planning to pick one up at the end of Jan so any further information would be great.

I believe you'll still need the reducer. I should be receiving mine next week and will post some more info and pics.

Yeah I remember TurboXS saying they were trying to stop the import of them since they were a clear copy of their FMIC but I'm guessing that didn't happen. US laws just don't apply to places like China and I doubt they will ever be able to do anything about it.

Get over yourself, it's the same. The TurboXS kit is LESS complete. It doesn't come with the intake.

And fwiw, I ordered mine last week. Install pics soon

you get what you pay for. thats what everyone says. So I guess its a bang for my buck.

I've got some ebay parts on my old car and my WRX, not so many now but some ebay stuff is just as good, you never know. Would I ever buy that, NO I know a tuning shop that makes nice FMIC and can make em black and look sexy!

if its so complete why do you need to source other parts to make the install happen? no need for a reducer w/ my txs.

no one uses the intake anyways i know i didnt, i have a k&n and a perrin big maf for when my new turbo arrives.

I hate to be the one to break this to you but this is the same as the txs one and if it wasn't why would they try and stop the import of them. The only difference between them is the ebay one is made with 304ss while the txs one is alum. Thus making the ebay one better.

Also don't you need to put an after market bumper brace for the txs one while this one comes with one.

I think knocking a product cause of where people buy it is dumb. I can buy a dell pc on ebay does that make them all crap?

I ordered mine via fax last Thursday and got it on Saturday! The new kit does not have XS Power painted on the core anymore. Not sure what if anything(like the reducer) is missing as I am not ready to install quite yet.

Please, all of the people mad that they paid twice this amount already posted in the last thread. And you would need an intake if you didn't already have one.

The coupler cost me $13 off of ebay. The air filter can be found at autozone for $20. Not a bad deal. It's still $750 cheaper than the other decent FMIC's out there. But we already know this.

I would rather have aluminum because it won't hold heat as much not to mention being lighter. But I can take that comprimise.

Also, does anyone know what size is the BOV port?

I got mine, working on installing it now. I'm very impressed with the quality. The core is very nice. Cast endtanks, high density fins on the ambient and charge air side, great welds. So far the only thing I can say negative is they still didn't include the 2.75 to 2.5" reducer, and the two weld joints on the IC piping aren't really pretty. The rest is nice. They even include a grommet to put around the passenger fendor where the IC pipe passing through so the piping doesn't get scratched up.

I got one box with two smaller boxes inside. They were packaged extremely well. Lots of packaging, all the piping was wrapped in bubble.

As for the old thread, it got locked because someone was trying to run a groupbuy that was not a vendor. Those are the rules, I think they acted fairly. Anyway, the thread was turning to crap because some people couldn't just hit the "new thread" button and instead spammed and confused everyone with information on some other kit.

So far install isn't bad. Had to cut the lower bracket that holds the stock coolant overflow tank (part of the radiator fan plastic bracketing), had to bore out the holes on my MAF to make it fit because the MAF piece that comes with the kit has the holes too far apart. Had to cut some plastic under the battery to allow the piping to go through. Nothing more than 5 minutes with a Dremel. Definitely not complaining. I don't think that any of that is worse than any other $1000+ kit. I paid $425, shipped, and got it 3 days later via Fedex ground.

All my pics are here:
http://freon.shackspace.com/car/fmic
I'll post a nicer writeup once I finish it, probably tomorrow.

My core does not have anything painted on it, but it does appear to be the same "XS Power" core the earlier buyers received.

My SSA XS Power FMIC kit came with everything, but the reducer hose, like this one as shown here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-2...spagenameZWDVW

I just took a break(beer) from installing it the kit now. So far just got the front bumperbeam off and mounting the FMIC core to the new bumper beam and man does it LOOK GREAT !! It is so much nice than what I was expecting for $425 shipped... If you all got any questions on it hit me up in a little while when I get done with her.

*The BOV coupler is: 1 1/8 internal and 1 1/4 outside.

BTW, hey Freon, what is the black cylender with the small hole at the top for do you know, my kit didn't come with directions?

The black tube thing is the new coolant overflow tank. You have to yank the stocker and cut off part of the radiator fan plastic bracketing to fit the new FMIC piping. I have the new black overflow tank mounted to an unused screwhole right in front of the battery. The new piece fits snug to the right of the radiator, basically below and further towards the driver's side of the stock overflow bottle.

There is also some large vacuum tube and a T. I assume it is for rerouting the crank case vents, since the stock metal Y tube (fits in front of stock IC with 3 screws) has to be removed.

I should be finished tomorrow. I put more pictures up.

SSA is in North Carolina and doing the selling. I can't make fake Nike shoes in China and sell them here, either. Now, you may have trouble stopping some guy in China selling fake Nikes mailorder over the internet if there is no vendor here.

I'd consider the kit well equipped. They leave out a 3" ID cone airfilter element and a 2.5 to 2.75 hose, but include a shortram MAF piece, vacuum hose (presumably to replace the metal tubes on the front of the factory IC that are removed?), a coolant overflow tank, nice machine screw style hose clamps, etc.

I'm not sure if SS or aluminum is better. I'd probably tend towards aluminum, but I doubt it really matters much. Both are pretty thin in this application. As long as they don't break I'd call it moot. The SSA is stainless and pretty lightweight. The core is aluminum (duh) and pretty damn heavy. Stainless is pretty bling, which could be a good or bad thing. Again, I'd probably pick aluminum if I had a choice.

I'll try to remember to weigh the parts, but I only have a bathroom scale. I should be able to get a reasonable number for the core at least.

Well the difference is they aren't selling a TurboXS FMIC. They are selling a XS-Power FMIC. Everyone know it's a direct copy but again China doesn't uphold US law and Patten-pen. They aren't breaking any laws selling their FMIC, it's making a direct copy in the 1st place.

In any case I'm glad to see they are giving such a good price on these. I thought for sure that they would jack the price when the new ones came in. Atleast the company has that much going for them.
