it looks like the connecting bar would move, doesn't that defeat the purpose?

You have to tighten the crap out of that. This is very typical for ebay stuff.

Does anyone know the stock muffler inlet size? will a 2.5" inlet aftermarket muffler fit?

SMH. The connecting bar is suppose to move and sway or else it would be too rigid. The idea is suppose to control and limit the independent strut flex /body flex at that certain point

that's pointless, the body didn't flex that much. My Buick regal has a solid tower bar

Thats why the potential is realized at high G turns. It will flex more than you think.

Kind of pointless on a street car.

I believe it's 2" but shouldn't matter an exhaust shop could make it work

So does it mean I wasted my money on a fundamentally design flawed front strut bar as well?

Thanks for reassuring me, I ordered this one on impulse, I was planning to get the Cucso one though initially.

perhaps i dont know what i am talking about, but under hard cornering i have never seen my fenders bow out or my hood crinkle which leads me to believe the body doesn't flex that much, so if i was going to add a strut bar to my car (i would like too) i want it to be rigid, otherwise it is just there for looks.

Its for uniting both strut towers. when 1 flexes the other will help keep it stable and share the force. i doubt you could tell a difference sitting in the car. If you seriously raced the car and had a camera in there then i bet you might be surprised.

You could always take the hood off, tie a piece of string to both towers and go to an empty parking lot.

Your string idea is interesting, and an empty parking lot wouldn't be necessary if the string used was inflexible enough that it would break rather than stretching. Tie such a string tight between the strut towers, and then go for a brisk ride. If the string snaps, then that was caused by the movement the strut bar would prevent.

I think for 2.0 manufactured as a dd this item is overkill and is more to put your
mind at ease and seperate you from your money.

Maybe. Depends on if mods like this can actually be felt or not. For example, I'm pretty sure a thicker rear anti-sway bar could be felt. I don't know about a strut tower brace. Normally I drive my car pretty tamely, but every now and then I like to take an on-ramp/off-ramp/curve in the road with some extra speed, just for fun. If these mods could be felt when I'm entertaining myself, it might be worth it.

This is a Subaru marketing vid, but unless they hired actors, or they found some good liars, it seems fairly convincing that ppl noticed an improvement in handling from the strut tower brace.

I've ordered it too, so I'll know soon enough.

If it's really such a safety improvement why isn't it standard? They say it can make the difference in avoiding a accident so if I get in one can I sue for the car not having a strut brace? It's what they imply. Get the strut brace and avoid an accident.

By and large the subaru chassis are considered pretty stiff. It's doubtful that the brace will be noticable except in cases where advanced suspension mods are present. If you want to get the most bag for your buck handling wise, invest in some good sticky tires. Until you do the bar will make no difference. Think about it, in order to get the chassis to flex the tires will need to be able to pull very high G's. Most tires would just give way before that point.

Springs will also need to be stiffer to create the flex

I wouldn't get a strut tower brace for the '12 Impreza 2.0i. Don't see a need for it. Heck I don't have one for my STI, and I used to regularly raced it. But to each his own. Just my .02.

ST Eye,

Can you tell me whether the rear sway bar on you Sti fits your 2012 Impreza? They say the '11 Sti bar fits the 2012 Imp.

Cant say for sure, but I think that all 08+ STI RSB will work. I think they are the same type of suspension. I have not tried it myself.
