Default 2019 Nissan Altima Thread

Quote:

2018 Nissan Altima Price, Engine, Design

The current Altima is a mid-size sedan which has been released back in 2012 and updated quite recently to be more reminiscent of its bigger brother, the Maxima. The car is based on a front wheel drive chassis, and it comes with plenty of features for its class. We have to say that it is one of the very few cars where everything usually works and its only real drawback being the fact that it doesn’t have another badge. Nissan is planning to improve it even further, so the upcoming 2018 Nissan Altima is planned to be an entirely new car.

There are still very few details about it, but it seems that the future Altima is going to use a new modular platform. This will be shared with another medium to large sized cars and at this point, it still is unclear if it will be front or rear wheel drive. Our guess would go on another front wheel drive chassis. However, this time around it would be quite a bit lighter, more rigid and a lot more versatile. This should allow Nissan to make the Altima slightly bigger than before to give it a more aggressive design. The new platform will not mean a new price. We expect the slightly over $23,000 base price to be kept while the V6 version might finally be discontinued in the favor of a new powertrain.

The updated version of the current car looks quite good, but the upcoming 2018 Nissan Altima should get things a bit further. Firstly, we should see an evolution of the current’s design scheme to something a bit more aggressive. Nissan proved that they want to get noticed with the new Maxima and Murano.

Thanks to these two cars, the upcoming Altima is likely going to receive a floating roof effect, blacked out B and C pillars and even a slightly more coupe-like appearance. Surely, it would still have to offer plenty of room for five passengers, but the new platform should allow Nissan to offer more room inside the cabin despite the fact the car will get a sloping roof.

INTERIOR

Just like with the Murano or even the Maxima, the upcoming Nissan Altima should get an all new interior. It should feature a more modern, yet slightly more grown-up, appearance. Also, instead of a rather unappealing gray interior, the new car will feature a more curvaceous look. The dashboard will get nicer air-vents, a more impressive center stack, and no fake chrome inserts. All of these should make the car a much nicer place to be overall.

ENGINE

The current version of the car is being offered with either a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated engine or with a 3.5 liter V6. Both of these are average at best, and none of them is all that great. Instead of these two old powertrains we expect the new 2018 Nissan Altima to get all new turbocharged engines. Most of its competitors already did this move so it would make sense for Nissan to make this step as well. We expect the old 2.5-liter engine to be replaced by a new 1.6 liter turbocharged inline four mills.

This unit has been developed by Nissan, and it is currently being used in quite a few Renault cars. On the Altima, the engine could easily make 195 to 225 horsepower and around 200 lb-ft of torque. For those still wanting for more, one of Renault’s 2 liters turbocharged engines could be installed. These are well known for being capable of close to 300 horsepower while being very reliable, so the Altima would easily become one of the favorites in its class.

The demise of the 6 cylinder engines in the family sedans. Honda Toyota Subaru Nissan. They like it to. Prior each manufacturer had to keep up with each other. But now that the field is leveled they don't have worry. Makes things easy once you transfer over. one tranny for both engines now and other needed parts. Plus, the V6 in the family sedan was a hidden bargain for mature people without egos. So now they push you into their upscale brands Lexus Infinity with bigger profit margins.

maybe we should wait until further details come out as to what the powertrain lineup will be before declaring any number of cylinders or displacements dead

What's gonna happen with the Maxima? I'd think the Altima would get the turbo 4 engines in line with the competition and the Maxima would stick with the NA or a turbo V6.

Not sure about that, several of those companies still have V6's, or are at least planning turbo 4's to replace them.

The only one to outright eliminate the V6/high power option has been Mazda in the current Mazda6.

Nissan has been working on a new variable compression engine - I'd expect to see a version of that in whatever this turns out to be.

Honda Too, Toyota uses their V6 in a lot of other crap so it's hanging on. Soon as Honda dropped the V6 in the Pilot the writing was on the wall.

notice how they phrased the V6 engine how it could be dropped off. Two speed CVT, isn't that a paradox? Also, another article about the Nismo.

2018 Nissan Maxima

One of the most popular sedans nowadays, from Japanese company Nissan, is Maxima. A lot of interest cause every new model, and so it is with upcoming 2018 year car. This one wasn’t confirmed yet, but when spokesmen come out with this announcement, we are sure many buyers will be looking for info about new sedan. The 2018 Nissan Maxima can bring some new things, from revolutionary design, to new engine. Even if it doesn’t go into new generation, new features and equipment will set some standards in the industry. According to what we know now, this sedan is worth of waiting.

Under the hood of the 2018 Nissan Maxima will be 3.5-l V6 engine that can deliver 300 horsepower. Engine is mated to a new 2-speed CVT. However, V6 drivetrain can be dropped off. Instead we could get some more economical unit, but with similar performance. Engineers in Nissan are working on it. New Maxima will likely get some sport-tuned parts, like suspension, 19-inch wheels and Dynamics-control module. Higher trims are getting much more, but they also cost over the base model price. Estimated mileage for 2018 Maxima sedan is predicted to be 25 mpg in city and 33 mpg in highway conditions. This is better than other full-size sedans.

2018 Nissan Maxima redesign

The 2018 Nissan Maxima will get modern design, with many stylish details, boosting its appearance. More headroom is predicted for new sedan, with larger truck. Standard features from base S model are upgraded for SL, SR, SV and Platinum vehicles. Among other stuff, we can find Live music streaming, wireless charging and wireless internet in infotainment specifications. Platinum model will be packed with premium Ascot leather interior, including steering wheel and panoramic dual panel moonroof. Driver assist display and push button start are just few or the features that making the drive easier.

2018 Nissan Maxima price

Full-size sedan has great specs, but it has its price. Base models won’t be less than $33,000 when new 2018 Nissan Maxima appears, and experts believe it will be during last quarter of 2017. Finally with more equipment coming with higher trims, price raises, up to $40,000 and over for Platinum edition.

A New Nissan NISMO Vehicle is Debuting Next Month
Is the Nissan Maxima NISMO going to debut at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show?

The Japanese automaker has confirmed that a new NISMO product will enjoy its global debut at the annual auto show in Los Angeles in mid-November, but it won’t share details on what it will be.

Last year, Nissan showed off the Sentra NISMO Concept in L.A., so there’s a possibility the production version will be introduced. Spy photographer Brian Williams also believes it will be the Sentra NISMO, considering that there have been prototypes caught testing on public roads.

There’s also a chance that it will be a new model getting the NISMO treatment, and if we had to guess, we would put our money on the Maxima given all the recent rumors.

Nissan will also be showing off the Nissan Rogue Rogue One: Star Wars Limited Edition in L.A., so another option would be a Rogue NISMO model to also tie into the movie. But knowing Nissan, the automaker won’t have two different Rogues to display at the auto show.

Either way, we will have to wait until early November for more details on the next NISMO product that will hopefully make it to production.

Default Nissan axes Altima In AUS

Nissan axes Altima

Nissan Australia has axed its Altima and Pulsar, leaving it without a sedan and with only three niche passenger cars.

The mid-size Altima sedan, which forms the basis of Nissan’s Supercars motorsport campaign, has been discontinued because it will not be upgraded to meet the stricter new Euro 5 emissions standard now in effect.

However, Nissan says the axing of Altima (sales of which fell from a height of almost 1800 in 2014 to less than 900 last year, with just over 150 sold so far this year), won’t affect its Supercars program, which is locked in until the end of the 2018 season.

“At present, we have stocks of the Nissan Altima but we won’t be importing any more of this model in the future,” said Nissan Australia in a statement today.

“The reason relates to the investment required to update the Australian-market Altima’s engines to meet the new Euro5b emissions standard in Australia.

“Nissan has decided to not make this investment so, for now, the Altima won’t be in our new-vehicle catalogue in the future. As a result, production of the Altima sedan will stop for Australia.”

Meantime, after axing its Micra and Pulsar hatchbacks in April 2016 and its Pulsar sedan earlier this month, Nissan Australia now says the Pulsar won’t return in Euro 5 guise and is yet to confirm a local release for Europe’s new Micra.

Last year Nissan sold almost 5800 Pulsars, making it its fourth best selling model after the X-TRAIL (18,903), Navara (16,755) and QASHQAI (12,259).

The move leaves Nissan Australia with only the GT-R and 370Z sports cars, the slow-selling LEAF electric hatch, the recently upgraded Navara ute and five SUVs.

They are the pint-size JUKE, which now kicks off Nissan range at $23,490, the small QASHQAI (a facelifted version of which arrives late this year), the volume-selling X-TRAIL mid-sizer, an upgrade for which lands in May, the recently updated Pathfinder and the Y62 Patrol.

After the first three months of this year Nissan’s Australian sales are down more than 13 per cent to a little over 15,000, as registrations of the discontinued Micra, Pulsar and Y61 Patrol grind to a halt.

Default 2019 Nissan Altima to debut at 2018 New York auto show

Quote:
There's a new Nissan Altima coming for the 2019 model year, and it debuts on March 28 at the 2018 New York International Auto Show.

The car represents the sixth generation for the Altima nameplate and a core pillar of Nissan's sales strategy here in the United States. The last time the Altima was redesigned was for 2013.

Demand for sedans may be on the wane but they still represent a healthy chunk of sales for many automakers, including Nissan. In the case of the Altima, Nissan sold 254,996 of the mid-size sedans in the U.S. in 2017. That's down from the nameplate's high of 335,644 in 2014, though it's still nothing to sneeze at. It means Nissan will be investing big in its new sedan.

A prototype was spotted testing last summer and Nissan has also previewed the design with the Vmotion 2.0 concept car unveiled at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Unfortunately, there isn't much else to go on though you can count on Nissan not shaking things up too much. Expect a 4-cylinder as the standard option and possibly V-6 and hybrid options for those seeking additional performance. Front-wheel drive with a CVT is expected to be the standard setup, though we've heard the car may benefit from an all-wheel-drive option. We've also heard the car will come with electronic driver aids from Nissan and Infiniti's ProPilot tech basket.

The new Altima won't have an easy job when it arrives. Key rivals like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry were redesigned for 2018. An updated Chevrolet Malibu is also due for 2019.

Hopefully we'll have more details soon. In the meantime, learn about some of the other vehicles appearing at the N.Y. auto show over at our dedicated hub.
