Default Anyone going to Barnes Lake on the 26th?

http://www.rallybc.com/RallyX/2005/2005RallyX_1.htm

I'm a novice and wanted to know what people thought of this event. I'm totally looking forward to being schooled. How difficult are these events? I'm not a speed demon as Mirage can attest...

i was there last year, and am helping with it this year
should be a good time

as for difficulty, come out for fun, and if you do well, then that is a bonus. last year we had tons of novices as well as people who had done it before.

if you have any questions you can email me shawn at rallybc dot com

I went last year and plan to go again this year. Last year it was very wet and very slippery. It's definitely fun and unlike anything else you'll ever do.

Tricky, you're an easy sell when it comes to motorsports. If you came out regularly to autox you could justify buying your own helmet.

I did it last year. I'm not sure if I'll make it this year (Unless Bruno offers me a dual drive on the Audi for navigating for him on T-Bird *HINT**HINT*).

It was good fun! Although it turned into a hydroplane race in the afternoon, with all those factory backed cars with huge snow-cone making studs.

I'm seriously thinking about this. Trying to get my hands on some 15" wheels and tires from Pat.

Anyone want to buy my 16" stock wheels and tires from my 02 WRX? Tires have 20% tread left. They are sitting in my garage not doing anything right now........

Bruno, autoX scares me a bit. That UBC School thing was a BLAST, and I can see how addictive it can become. Motorsports are not the cheapest pastime, especially with only a daily driver. However, I'll see if I can swing an economical motorcycle helmet... Any suggestions?

Do what bruno and I did. Buy a sub-$2000 car. What is that? That's like, foregoing buying new rims tires for your car!

So am I just asking for trouble if I want to rallyx/ autox my daily driver? I understand there is the possibility of doing some form of damage to the vehicle and I can accept the consequences, but primarily I'm just looking to have some auto fun/ not to get competitive...

I did for some time, but when you make a mistake, it's an expensive mistake. Think about it, if you plow through the snowbank and crack your front bumper? Would you replace it on your daily driven car? Yes. Would you replace it on your beater car? No, unless it's to the point that it affects the drivability of the car.

Or if you dent your doors because you slid sideways into a snowbank (*COUGH*BRUNO*COUGH*).

Like I said, you can always be careful, but then again, accidents happen even to the best of us.

I think Rally-x would be much more likely to cause damage to your car but it is pretty rare in auto-x. Accidents do happen but rare indeed. just plan on eating through tires at an increased pace. we-herd.

That was TSD, not rallyx, and not so much sideways into a snow bank as bouncing off an ice bank. I've had more damage to my Subaru through vandalism and other drivers hitting me that I've done to my Audi at rallyx and TSD combined.

I know some people are hesitant about autox but while incidents happen, they are very few and far between.

Oh no, people there are very helpful and supportive.

Bruno, Shawn, I stand corrected on both counts

I haven't sent in my entry yet but I plan to go and let youthanasia co-drive. I figure it'll be fair for making him suffer through t-bird as my navigator.

Actually, we'll need my mom's signature since I gifted it to her as she and my sister drive it all the time and it was the best way to be clear of any insurance repercussions if they crash it.

Then again, last time they didn't check the insurance papers to see who the registered owner is.

Part-TAY up in Cache Creek! Any Malaysian restaurants up there? I'm trying to convince Mirage to participate too.
