![]() The intake came out looking awesome, newbie123! How did you end up fabricating it? Any pics of the in-progress fab work?

![]() Looks awesome!
Is it possible that the center throttle body part be reversed back to the stock side and keep the A/C compressor? |

Yes, that that was the goal when designing this. Not everyone wants to have a forward facing throttle body Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

![]() Decided to ditch the front bumper? Was there no way to get the intercooler in there? Where are you mounting the radiator? Switching to a top mount radiator so you can have a front mount intercooler? lol

![]() Before I forget again, make sure you don't make it too difficult to get to the front timing cover. In the last 5 years I've had two oil leaks in the front cover, and one water leak in the rear cover. I won't argue that all three leaks may well have been my fault, or caused by my mistakes, I'm not sure. The seals last for a year or so before failing so I'm not sure one way or another. May just want to keep it in mind as you finish your build.

![]() I'm not sure that it would run very well. Off the top of my head the drive by wire throttle body and variable intake cam timing would be an issue, maybe all of the sensors are exactly the same between the two versions of the engine, but if there's a different sensor reading going back to the ECU it would probably make it unhappy. Then you have other issues like climate control and BCM you have to deal with. Maybe it's possible, but definitely easier to just get an AM ECU and wire that in.

dbw i would probably just use a 30d intake manifold which from what i can tell seems to be plug n play. as for avls there are only 2 settings, so i can just leave them disconnected (i think). sensors are my main problem, climate control and all that stuff arent really concerns. the idea is to use a factory ecu from the 30d to pass smog then switch to a standalone |

Side note, if you have a manual transmission ALL of the US EZ30 ECUs will throw a code for transmission control module failure, basically it doesn't see the car going into park/neutral and so it freaks out. The workaround for that is to wire in your E-brake (up/on) signal to the ECU as the park/neutral positions, and 5th pin relay (E-brake down/off) to drive signal wire. Luckily, the TCU isn't in the CAN bus so you can direct wire the pins to the ECU. Also means you should set your E-brake before you turn off the car. Last edited by Kito818; 06-13-2024 at 02:04 AM. |

small problem... the car in question doesnt have obd2 lmao, its a 1989 xt6. so youre saying get a simulator for "training" on a 2004 ecu? might work, but not sure what the california obd2 test entails exactly. also, if possible i would like to be able to actually run with the stock ecu because standalones are expensive lol. also, is the obd2 port just wired to the canbus and stuff? cant seem to find what its wired to in a subaru |

Second, I'm not sure where you live or what the laws are there, but here we have "antique" tags that don't require regular inspections, is there something like that where you live? If so might save you some time and headache. Even if you're not in CA, there is extra data on your ECU that uniquely identifies your car, more than just your VIN, some of that data includes some kind of calculated hash about your emissions that the state can use to track your vehicle year over year to make sure you're not running illegal mods or tricks to clear inspections. Some of the simulators allow you to program that data in too so no one bats an eye when you roll through emissions with a different set up. This is again irrelevant since your car is pre1996 and will get a colonoscopy instead of an OBDII scan, so this is purely info dump not really relevant to your situation but you asked why that information was needed. The OBDII port is either wired to the BCM or the ECU, can't remember off the top of my head, but if it's the BCM, the BCM and ECU talk via CANbus, but the OBDII port is not on the CANbus itself. Finally, cost, can't do much to help you there, BUT, you might consider a Raspberry Pi standalone. I have not actually looked into running an EZ30 on one, but that might be an avenue to consider to keep the standalone costs down, or alternatively consider getting an EZ30R ECU instead of the D variant. I know that's not really the answer you were hoping for, but as far as I myself can help, that's all I'm good for. Sorry I can't help you with what you wanted initially, but I hope I was at least able to give you some more options to consider. |

for engine swaps, they make you do all of the tests (obd2 and sniffer) so i do need obd2. there is a "collector car" option which means you just have to pass the sniffer but with an engine swap you still need to do the same tests first. as for vehicle identifying info from the ecu, i believe this doesn't need to match since the ecu should come from the car that the engine is from. i would just use the 30r ecu and be done, but the immobilizer system is too much of a pain in the ass so im thinking ill run the 30d ecu if possible (or maybe 30d ecu with a standalone in tandem?) |

it's not too important how the obd2 port is wired. ill look into vag-com but haltech with an obd2 port would most likely not work because they check the ecu software to see if its a carb certified tune (im willing to use a stock tune on an aftermarket ecu, but i have no idea if it would return the right numbers) |
