Default what the.

i have recently bought a 04' subaru wrx sti and i have a aftermarket exhaust on it. my car is running 8.7 psi instead of 14.5 or higher. I do not know what the problem is and subaru says they dont know either. they also told me that i would need to buy an access port because the guy before had one and thats the problem he put it in safe mode before he sold it. could this be possible? or what else does anybody out there know about my problem and how ic an fix it. help is greatly appreciated!

Well, that is possible. It could also be knocking too much and the ECU is disabling boost control.

It is unlikely the dealer can tell it had an AP, though it is possible. I highly doubt their tools can tell, but they could log and see the wastegate duty and IAM and see something was out of whack. They can just reflash right over it with the latest factory TSB ROM and that would fix it anyway if the AP story they gave you was true.

You certainly do NOT need to buy an AP to fix it. They CAN flash right over it, don't let them tell you they can't, that's BS. Obviously they don't quite understand the ECU if they think you must buy an AP. That's simply not true.

If the previous owner left his AP married to your car, his AP is now a paperweight.

Its not worth arguing with them over whether or not it had an AP on it. Just tell them to put the latest factory TSB flash overtop. If it still doesn't build boost something else is wrong.

Sounds like the increase in load has caused your IAM drop to a point where it is limiting your boost - 6. You need to adjust your timing and fuel for the higher load.

Could be bad gas, mechanical problem, or a manual boost controller, etc. It's not the factory tune with just a turboback. At under 9psi you're not going be running any sort of increased load over stock

first of all find out if there is indeed the accessecu technology (ap) installed on your ECU from the previous owner.

after you find that out, come back and post. If i had to guess beyond that, i would say something with your boost hoses, lack of a restrictor "pill", or a bad Boost control selenoid.

i was thinking that it was my boost controller or my boost solenoid. subaru i believe said that there disgnostic team could not further work on my car unless i bought a stock exhaust which i will not do beacuse that would waste my money. i will ask them to reflash over my ecu and hopefully something comes up.
