79, I've been following your posts regarding this issue. What ever came of your situation?

It seems like it's going to be a pain in the ass in order to get this oil consumption test done. I'm supposed to be receiving a call from the service manager today. Hopefully he brings good news seeing as I really want to keep this car.

this was happening in my 2013...put oil in it, like half a quart. And it'll never come on again, at least that's what happened to me. The oil looks like it's at full because when you pull the dip stick out it rubs up on the sides becuz it twists and it looks full, but it's not full, it's a half a quart low..at about 2000 miles if you put half a quart or a quart, it should be good until the 7500 mile mark when you get your change.

My oil consumption has continued on. I am having a consumption test done very soon now that summer is here. With Castrol 0w20 I've "only burned two quarts in 6000 miles. Nowhere near the threshold for warranty work. And I wouldnt be too jazzed about a new shortblock but that would beat pouring in 8 +/- quarts to go 7000 miles or so.
I hope for the best- for you and the other oil burning new impreza owners.

2qts/6000 miles, how do you end up pouring in 8+/- to 7000?

I was at my friendly neighborhood Walmart the other day. I noticed that in addition to the Mobil1 0W-20 oil, they also stock the Penzoil and Valvoline 0W-20 oils.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Pennzoil-P...-1-qt/23848112

Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with these oils? I've been happy with the Amsoil OE 0w-20 I've been using so far, but these oils would be cheaper and more convenient to buy if they would serve me well.

Interesting. I think I'll give this Pennzoil Platinum a try when I do my next oil change in a month or two.

Its an approximation... when I do an oil change- theres 5.3 quarts right off. Burn two or three and you end up having to purchase, and use, 7++ quarts per interval.

It's all relative, our jetta takes 6.3qts + another 3 per interval, and at 8/qt that adds up quick

Luckily the oil I put in in the subaru is much cheaper

Right. well I was only clarifying since there was a misunderstanding.
I would be as pissed at any make of car that uses an appreciable amount of oil since NEW.
Again though- It is not at all an issue of economics. Its the fact that normal cars dont burn massive amounts of oil, and some of us bought brand new, supposedly GOOD cars and are burning multiple quarts.
If this was a jetta I'd be on a VW board. I NEVER even considered a VW when car shopping.

Alpha's point is that Dubie wants to keep his Impreza, and 79 would prefer to not keep his Impreza.

Yea a car with oil consumption is a love/hate relationship. I hated my car at times that I wanted to smash it through the front door of Subaru, but I still loved the car. It's a great car, but oil consumption is stupid.

After the first litre addition is has been great! Minimal to almost no burning at all. I will keep a close eye on it though now that the temperature outside is going up!

This sounds encouraging. I predict you won't consume more oil even with warmer outside temps. I think your initial consumption was before the rings had a chance to seat themselves.
