They say the turbo failed and sent metal into the motor...now what
My 04 FXT got all the parts to swap out and have 300 whp. My other half became a grandmother... so the parts sat on the shelf for a month... set out to NV and about 5 hours into the trip on a pass my turbo went out. It was glowing red... not lights came on. Temps on the dash were normal. As soon as I heard a noise I pulled over. Car died before I could get off the road. Next morning I tried to start it and it was ticking and making a noise like a barring was out. Shop said its a total loss. Should I find a used motor and put my parts on it and drop it on the car? Short block build from shop was like 10k

We don't know your entire situation and or abilities or connections. You sound like you like the car and enjoy it and are willing to put in some work. Money is the big factor. Time is also a factor. Is the '04 body in good enough shape to warrant an engine transplant? Obviously save as much as you can off the old engine, but turbo impeller parts do quite the damage as they make their way into the engine. How long will it take you to source a new engine and do all of the necessary work to get the old one out and the new one in? What kind of budget are you working with? Do you have connections in the industrty? Will you try for 300whp again, or keep it more modest and only go 250-275whp? I know swaps are "easy", at least from an engine from one car "fits" into other cars, but the actual swap isn't as easy or as easy as You Tube makes it out to be. Good luck on your quest. |

Thanks for the input. I made the call to just drop the coin on a aIG 500 longblock. I got that and the aIG header/up pipe paid for. I will be working with a local shop Flat 4 on getting to the new longblock in, and all the parts I have got for it on the shelf. This will be a business expense so its a lot easier to spend the money lol. I will look into a full exhaust as well to top it off. I may start a build post to share the journey as I go. |
