First swap - 94-95 ej20g into 97' impreza L
Hey wassup guys. I'm looking to swap a JDM Ej20g into my obs impreza. I know I know, its going to be a head-ache and no I don't care about emissions . All that aside, I've been reading posts regarding these types of swaps however, for the wiring I haven't come across one thread that explains how to wire, or what is needed to 1.) use stand-alone (yes I know powerfc right?) - step by step process - what is being used for wiring - etc. I'm a complete noob and have never installed a stand-alone.
- 2.) Or I've heard of Robtune - now I live in Tacoma, Wa so this seems feasable being that Rob lives like 15 miles away lol. However, do I need to still have the wiring harnesses merged for this? (Again I'm a noob). -3.) If there's any other "cost" effective way of wiring this damn thing that anyone has done before that works please let me know. This is my side-project and I have time so I'm just looking for the simplest way to do this. I don't know anything about wiring so the less wiring the better lol but either way I'm willing to learn. Just need some guidance, I appreciate any help which is given thanks!

pay someone to wire it
buy a tune from rob if you want cheap decent power, or get an esl board if you want to chase power |

Tried to get intouch with rob, it's a no-go. And I wanted this to be my project. I'm just trying to get an idea as to what I'd need for the swap in regards to the wiring. Like if I bought a power fc standalone, will I still have to merge the chassy and engine wire harnesses?

buy your engine, wait for rob in the meantime, and enjoy some sweet reliable jdm power |

ok so has anyone just bought the entire wire harness and swapped out the harness before? I've read that this is much simpler to do than a wire harness merge. Any thoughts on that?

No matter what route you take you're going to have to do some wiring. A full car wiring harness will make it easier for sure but there will most likely be some odds and ends that will need to be addressed and/or extending of wires because the RHD harness will probably fit a bit different than your standard LHD one. Could be wrong there....just an assumption.
There are many many many threads on here about how to merge the wiring harnesses. You might try and search in the Pre 2002 Turbo Powertrain section but this conversions section helped me through my 1st swap. Also try RS25.com. It might be easier to find the info you're looking for over there since the majority of the members are rocking 95-01 imprezas. |

There is no such thing as a "step by step" or "one thread" that explains "everything" mainly because Subaru made a lot of changes over the years and a lot of changes between USDM/EDM/JDM vehicles. One persons JDM WRX swap into a 97 Impreza will not be the same as a WRX swap into a 93 Impreza. Due to the variances in models, every swap will be unique in some way.
