just a random Monday bump...I like to say somthing more exciting than "bump"

I think I'm ordering my WRs this week. I just have to let some checks clear and assess my finances.

Ron,

Just got off the phone with Ryan. He thinks you're pretty cool shiznats. Ryan's a very cool guy...

And $563.20 later (ouch! But necessary...), I'm the proud owner-to-be of a full set of Nokian RSi tires in P205/50-16. I decided to go with the 50-series to make the switch to Euro-spec. (That and I'm hoping they won't rub/scrape with my STi suspension, as much as my OE tires do, or as much as my old 15"s winters did.)

Ryan says that the RSi in that size is just arriving to his shop in MI tomorrow, and I'll supposedly be either THE first, or THEIR first 205/50-16 owner in the USA. Pretty dorky bragging rights, but hey a guy has to be proud of something.

I'm in no financial spot to spend that kind of cash, but really, unless I go with BJ's tires or something super-cheap out of TireRack, the price is fairly competetive for a 16"........

The majority of us are in the Mid-A region. Every once in a while someone from outside the region catches drift (pun!!) of this deal and chimes in. What I'm getting at is that studs are not legal in the Mid-A (at least on tires) so we may not be able to help you right away. Hopefully someone from outside our area can provide you with that info

Studs are legal in PA for a certain time period. Check local laws.

And it's the Hakka. 2, but we knew what you meant.

You'll definitely have to check your state/local laws, regarding studs. In PA they have to be off by I think April 15.

Hmmm.

$720 for the RSi's...which I gotta say...I'm in love with after reading about them. But I'm also in love with the idea of saving $720. I think I might have to stick with the Pilots for one more season. Dang.

That's $720 for my 225/45/17 tires, most will have 16's or even dedicated winter 15's. Also, think of the safety winter tires may bring you, you'll never know when you'll have to slam on the brakes or hit some sleek pavement.
For those of you that have never felt the difference b/w winter and all seasons/summers, it is amazing!! There will be no more white nuckles!!
My $0.02

Thanks for putting this one together Ron.

wow! Hey, no problem!

Hey, $720 was for those 225/45/17's as WRXER12 pointed out, and the $20 extra there is shipping (to Canadia). Smaller tires will be less than that! If you need 17's and are on a budget, consider 205/50/17. THat set should run you about $655.

My poor wife had a heart attack when I told her about the RSi. Guess I should've gone for a cheaper set, but even if I went with a Bridgestone or Michelin, I'd be pushing it to save $100 I think....

Ehh... Gonna try to sell some stuff to make up for it, I guess. ( http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...=1#post7863133 )

Haha, get her a set too and she'll feel better.

That's logical isn't it?

I wish.

She's going to be using my old Hakka. 1s, actually. This will be their fifth winter. There's still a remarkable amount of tread left on them, although they certainly aren't top-notch, anymore. But I think they'll work well enough for one more season. Plus, if we can hack it by next summer, we'd love to get her another car. This one's great, and we just got it in January, but we had to rush into the buy because her other car got totaled in a very horrible accident.

A lady ran a stop sign, and my wife T-boned her. If she'd been 1/2 second further along, she could have been VERY seriously injured or worse. God what an awful day that was... She had a '91 Cavalier.

FedEx showed up at 8:30 in the morning today, with a full set 'o' RSi tires.

They look pretty shwanky. Can't wait to install them!

Siper2...check Nokian's website....they produce Hakka 4's. It would appear that it's an upgrade to the Hakka 2.

In NY we can drive with studded tires until mid April.

Hey Siper2, I just got my wheels back from the shop today, mounted with fresh RSi's. As I rolled the wheels through my garage they definately made "SQUEEEEEECK" sqeegie noises on the garage surface Speaks well for the sticky rubber but those things are gonna be noisy in parking garages!!! Can't wait for winter! Too bad I won't be mounting these wheels until proably the end of November Ergh, so far away...

I dunno, its hard to say. I think it was the winter before last... that we had a 29" snowfall that barricaded me inside my house for 4 days (of course, I skiied down my driveway and got picked up at the street to go skiing

But sometimes it's dry. Very hard to tell. They're calling for a cold winter this year but I don't know about the snow predictions.

-Ron

(where in northern MD are you talking about though, if you're in the mountains in the west you'd have more of a need for snow tires)
