That gif is beyond awesome. How much did the oar mod set you back?

You seem to have done a decent job of maintaining your lane positioning though.

Finally got my antenna up but it's just up there on a magnet mount for the time being while I have my NMO through roof mount coming in the mail. I'm waiting on tuning the SWR until I get it in the roof mount, but do you think it'll be okay un-tuned for now? I just want to play with it a little bit and I know the quality will be terrible. I've got a Larsen 27B connected to a Midland 1001Z all wired straight to the battery. I'll post pics up later!

MOST, but not all, radios will automatically reduce output power to avoid frying themselves if you run them into a badly mis-matched antenna. So play with it at your own risk, but you'll probably get away with it.

Soooooo something weird happened on my way back from a long drive. My through-roof Larsen NMO mount broke. The whole antenna came off. I didn't hit anything, the mount just cracked! Now I have a hole in my roof and JUST finished my solid install too. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do? Call Larsen? I'll post pics tomorrow.

Holy ****! Yeah, call Larsen! I have literally NEVER heard of a larsen brand mount failing before.

Pics please, I'd love to see how it failed.

It was a Larsen NMO K mount. Nothing hit my antenna, it's in perfect shape. This thing just broke while it was whipping around on the highway!y

Edit: Just called Larsen, they were super cool about it and are sending me a whole new mount including coax for free no questions asked. They don't even want to see a pic of my broken mount!

It's hard to tell from the pic, but did one of the little "ears" that goes below the sheet metal break?

I really am shocked it broke. Mine hold a 2/70cm antenna and a CB antenna no problems. I've cruised for upwards of an hour a 100+, had a deer hit the CB antenna at about 93-95, and had both hit tree limbs at ~50, all with no problems.

I literally just sat here wondering what the frak an Arab surname (sauder) had to do with radio. I think I need to take a nap.

And you meant solder.

And yes, I hate PL-259s as well.

bout 6 years ago a bought an internal cb antenna from jcwhitney.com. Its a module that taps into the stereo antenna which means no additional antenna to mount on the car. There was no interferance between the radio and the cb when they were both on and the range didnt seem too bad either.

Jesus, that's a good way to fry the stereo. Also, the FM radio antenna is TOTALLY the wrong length (87-107MHz vs 27MHz).

10 meter is amateur radio HF and requires a license to use. It would not be useful for general car to car communication.

11 meter is CB and can be very useful for car club meets and for keeping an ear out for cops through the trucker net.
