Default no fuel pump controller = wear out pump?

I'm putting an sti pump into my 2.5 swapped l this morning, will the sti pump wear out quickly or overheat without the wrx speed controller? I understand it will be louder at idle. My zxturbo cars had the speed controller also so maybe I could use one of those since my ecu is 1.8 and I doubt it has the outputs to run the wrx fpc correctly? Any ideas?

Well the pump is in and WAY quieter than the 1.8 one even though the removed pump is only a couple of weeks old. Now I just hope the sti pump doesn't overheat from running on stock 1.8 relay setup. Going to drive now to see if engine runs any richer or better, at least it's quieter.

no, no, no.

a fuel pump is a SIMPLE mechanical thing. u feed it power and it pumps gas. the internal structure of the newer gen cars is probably identical with the oldergen. just redisigned to be smaller packaging. the fuel pump controller is for the stupid complicated piggo ECu. useless for your setup.

it will not wear out, its a frekin pump.

it wont overheat, nada nada. i had a usdm WRX one in my car for 2 years with your EJ25. it just hung out and did its job.

the fuel pump controler has some relation with the ECU on the EJ205 usdm wrx and new age GDB cars. i have no idea what it actaully does, some people manage swaps in gc8 without them and have decent luck. most do-

with JDM GC8 ej20's no need for a FPC. it dosnt belong.

Basically the ECU sends a voltage signal to the fuel pump controller, in which the fuel pump controller regulates the voltage to the fuel pump, thus controlling the amount of fuel flow the pump sends out to the rails.

Can anyone confirm my statement is true?

From what I've read about fuel pump controllers on other vehicles, they are designed to reduce noise when idling and since very little fuel volume is required at idle, the pump doesn't need to run wide open to maintain correct fuel pressure. It also will reduce pump wear to an extent. I'm pretty sure those are the reasons they are installed on some subaru's as well.

IDK about JDM turbo cars, but all USDM turbo models have one. The controller is nothing more than a voltage controller to the pump. In the NA cars, there is no controller because the pump is always fed the same voltage. However, in the turbo cars the controller varies the voltage at the pump based on throttle position and engine speed. Why does it do this? IDK, but that's what it is for.

^ ^ Yeah, I guess I misspoke, b/c the USDM turbo legacies didn't have one either, IIRC. Anyone know the rationale though? Fuel efficiency maybe?
