Post it's all done now.....

Well, today as of about 1045 AM, my RS is sitting in a wrecking lot, care of the gross stupidity of others. I had the unique opportunity to have two "gentlemen" attempt to cross route 28 AGAINST the traffic light on bicycles. The guy in front of me in a Lincoln (I think) stopped DEAD in the left lane by Citizen's at a green light (i couldn't yet see why), and there was no way I was going to stop- damn near hit him. Quick look right, I'm clear, so I swing into the right lane- then I see why he stopped! Out in the middle of 28 in the left lane is some idiot on a bicycle! Best part yet, his moronic partner is RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME in the right lane!!!! Let's just say trying to stop from 40 in the rain within 20 feet doesn't happen. So I think, great, I'll hit SOMETHING, just not him... no dice. I swung into the dirt (and incidentally, the light pole) and he thought it would be a great idea to do the same. So... bike and all, he ran for the side of the road (rule #1: if a car's coming at you DROP THE DAMN BIKE!). I hit the pole, the pole hit his bike's back tire, he fell down. To make matters more fun, he gets up, walks himself and the bike out into the right lane of the road (15+ feet from where we both stopped) and then drops to the ground and grabs his leg (rule #2: if you get hit, apparently you are to do everything you can to screw the other guy, even if it's your fault). I know I'm gonna get sued; he and his buddy are at fault, I'm gonna get it posteriorly for it. Best part is, he didn't understand me when I said "get out of the road" in English, but when I said that in spanish with a little "chinga tu madre" to boot, you could see that he knew what I meant. So, I'm OK, paramedics say he's fine, his bike doesn't even have a mark on it, and the poor scoob gets the shaft.... new hood, new bumper, new fog, new headlight, get to do the grill mod and DIY clear corners over again, new front quarter panel, possibly new side sill replete with frame damage, and very possibly MAJOR suspension work (the front sway looks OK, but seeing as the front end link BROKE IN HALF, it could be bad. Tire and wheel OK, though pushed back to the rear edge of wheelwell. Pics when I recover my wits. I'm very shaken up, heavily pissed off, $120 for the tow (3 miles mind you) and probably two or three weeks until I have the car back if I'm lucky.... my body shop's going to have a nice surprise tomorrow morning. The only bright side to the story is, I now have a good reason to paint the car, and I MIGHT get it back in that awesome steel blue mica- don't know if I can afford that too or not. Thanks for listening to me rant; I don't want sympathy, that's not why I wrote this; I just need to get it out I guess. Going to be very sore for awhile, no scoob, I missed work today, will tomorrow, possibly tuesday as well, need a rental, no garage day, no autocross (was to be my first), scared all my family and friends, and it's all because of some damn fool's GROSS STUPIDITY. So guys (and gals) PLEEEEEEASE be careful out there- there's some things you have no control over. I know you're all careful with your toys, but so was I. Watch out for the other guy, WEAR YOUR SEATBELT, and never, and I mean ever, just don't underestimate how stupid people can be.

Apologies for caps....

I Had a close call with a car yesturday, I was coming up a hill with a Cherokee behind me, with my blinker on and having the right of way I have to slam on my brakes and come about 3" away from some girl in a corolla, because she can't stop at a stop sign. after I realize I am going to miss her I look behind me and see the Jeep come a few inches form my bumper and turn some to aviod me. I wanted to hit the girl that was in front of me, and at the same time thank the guy in back of me for not hitting me. by the way the roads were wet, the abs helped.

p.s. I hate people who can't drive.
(even though I have had my moments of stupidity)

Well, if I can FIND any of them Bill, I'll be glad to let you have them. It's funny how the RS breaks... when the bumper sheared (pretty much right along the center of the fog light) it came off in one big chunk... it's sitting on the front passenger floor with my headlight, fog, clear corner, and the bumper vent.

Jim...thanks. I called Kyle today, told him I wouldn't be in tomorrow, maybe tues as well. I'm going to see what happens with the insurance company and body shop for a car, and the Salem PD tomorrow about the report and stuff. I may try to get a 730 to 430ish shift, as my father actually works down in Medway- he can drop me off and pick me up. I don't want to make your life a pain too, but if nothing else works out Jim, I'll definitely be talking to you. Bill, Ray Lanes took the car (I'm not happy, they don't treat things well), and Cote Autobody is going to get it tomorrow and tell me the news (hopefully good). I left the trunk monkey to watch over her, and stripped everything else out just in case. It's amazing what can happen when you're just going about your day as usual. It's funny... I JUST filled the tank down at US Gas on 28. It's got a full tank, and can't go anywhere under it's own power.

You fell victim to one of my favorite pet peeves - people on bicycles who don't understand that they are (I'm pretty sure) REQUIRED to obey all traffic signs and signals, just as a car is. It pisses me off to see people riding out in the middle of a lane as if they own the road, but then they flagrantly disobey a stop sign or whatever. FOLLOW THE RULES OR GET OFF THE ROAD!!!

It sucks that your car had to pay for their stupidity. I would think even if they sue you you'll come out just fine, because THEY were breaking the law. Good luck getting the car straightened out, and definitely get the steel mica if you can swing it.
