Itís a German vehicle, pretty much tells you all you need to know about the resale value.

My advice, if youíre concerned about resale value, donít buy new.

I was simply making a point that there is an abundance of them left over from 2017. I'd assume that not good for resale value. Lots of supply still sitting. That price is great if you're looking for a GTI. MSRP I think is close to $28k. Now pretend you have a used 2017 and brand new 2017s have an asking price of $22k- that can't be good for a used 2017. What could you possibly sell that for if you can get a new 2017 for $22 before negotiations. Maybe I'm just confused- A 2017 new at $22k is an incredible deal. The resale value on (let's say you bought a new 2018 instead) would be horrendous if you paid near what they are asking.

As far as resale, check uses mk7 prices in your area. Cars.com lists 43 within 100 miles of me and the lowest prices are $15k (high mileage 2015 models without the performance package) but most are in the 18-20k range.

Considering what I paid thats not bad at all if my car was worth 15k after 3 years, basically the same depreciation as my BRZ (Bought for 24k traded in for 16.5k)

That's where I was thinking you were going with it, couldn't be sure.

The GTI has a ratcheting center armrest.
The Golf R does not.

Time to trade down to the GTI.

I believe it’s had that feature since 2011. My Mkvi did at least.

All R's assembled after about November 20, 2017 now come with the ratcheting arm rest.

It's also pretty easy to replace the arm rest with a ratcheting one.

The GTI just has a better interior IMO anyway

So, the Autobahn package GTI is worse than the lesser optioned S with Interlagos seats?

Where am I...OT?

FWIW, Skylab likes them all and doesnít consider one ďbetterĒ than the other. They are actually different than each other.

Channeling my inner Neil DeGrass Tyson.

It's the same damn interior. Whether you prefer cloth or leather is purely subjective. I prefer the cloth because black leather in Arizona is no bueno.

Yeah... those are certainly all subjective items.

Despite the added horsepower from red accents all over the place, I'm happy to not have them on my R.

I live in a very mild climate that happens to be wet for half the year and temps that rarely hit 90. Leather is my preferred seating choice.

I am mildly apprehensive about the blue ambient lighting vs red. Ambient lighting in my old MCS was programmable, and I generally went with blue, mostly to match the exterior color of the car, but I did enjoy the red/amber ambient lighting in my dad's old BMW - better for night vision.
