God, the base really gets no colors at all, huh? White, gray, silver or black, that's it.

Also interesting that the base doesn't have the full 5000lb towing capacity.

Pricing looks very competitive. Compared to the competition there seems a lot value built in this vehicle. I've priced the Pilot, Traverse, and Durango with the options I wanted (mainly to get leather seats, driver assist suite, and 5000lbs towing capacity) and this looks to be quite a bit cheaper.

Seems like that's about 80% of the cars out there, so they covered the "base" quite well.

Really ,when are they going package options without the bundling Navigation? Who needs it with phone tech/ACP/AA. Plus, a premium should have a roof standard like Forester. Perhaps in the MMC we will see that plus the front and rear camera option

I got the email to pre-order for some reason.

I am looking to replace the wife's explorer in the next year, and this could tick a lot of the boxes. I'll wait till they are on dealer lots to check it out in person. I really want a Volvo XC90 but this could be a much cheaper alternative.

Does anyone else find a 13k variance in price between base and touring to be entirely absurd for what the differences are?

No.

It is less than the difference between the base '18 Forester and the Touring... as an example.

Other makers' differences are often far greater.

My wife's been keeping an eye on the Ascent, and would have been interested in the Touring if it was available without the (as she described it) "poop-brown seats".

Wife is the same. Doesn't like the poop brown. If you could change the leather and make it 8 seats Touring is what we would go with. Looks like we will be doing Limited with add on package. Has anyone heard anything about warranty for the Ascent?

You all are brave. First year Subaru model and first year engine.

Learned my lesson to let the early adopters work out all the bugs.

I understand if you need a car, you need a car. That’s why I bought my 2012. But I wouldn’t buy a first year again

On the other hand...

I've bought several first-year models of Subarus... with zero problems from them or any others I've owned. For sure, however, as each platformed progressed so did their refinements. My '17 FXT is visually almost identical to my '14 but it's a much better vehicle overall.

For perspective, all those many thousands of each first-yearers have only increased the brand's reputation for safety, reliability, and value... not sowed doubt and distrust by being flawed. Their reputation and ratings continue to be top notch, their sales continue to set records. Their is nothing really new in the Ascent except the engine, the rest is incremental refinements and size. The FA20DIT is one of the best engines ever made... there is NO reason to consider the FA24DIT as anything but even better.

All the prices listed are MSRP... curious how they will price them out of the gate... wonder how much invoice would put them?

Will probably depend on how many sold orders are filled. We are already over 50% of our sold order allotment. If they have tons of demand.....

Can you keep me/us posted. I'm curious how the ascent will sell.

3 year/36,000 B to B
5 year/60,000 Powertrain

For those of you excited about the 2.4 in other applications, I think you'll be pleased.

My 2 cents: People will crawl over each other for this thing, especially once they drive it.

Also, everyone should poll women they know about the "poop brown" seats. I'm 0 for 3 at this point, and others have noted the same.

No, it's not.

A base 2.5i is 22,795 with the 2.5i touring being 33,090 so you're looking at around 10k difference in the Forester.

Comparing a base 2.5i to an XT Touring would not be a like for like comparison to the Ascent because you have a major drivetrain variance there where the Ascent does not.

The Ascents pricing gap between base and touring is similar to the gap between that 2.5i base and the XT Touring, but you don't get that drivetrain upgrade, oh and BTW the base already has the Eyesight which is a big reason for buying some of the upper trim models. Also, Dealers are doing pricing on XT Tourings in the ballpark of 4-5k off MSRP which makes them more appealing/justifiable. I don't see that happening with the Ascent at least anytime in the near future based on predicted demand.

So yeah, this pricing strategy makes a hell of a lot less sense when it comes to justifying the upper level trims.

Based on their model comparison you're paying 13k for these upgrades:
All-Weather Package: heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and windshield wiper de-icer
5,000 pound maximum towing capacity
7-passenger seating w/dual second-row captain’s chairs (8-passenger seating unavailable)
Blind-Spot Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels
LED Steering Responsive Headlights
Power rear gate with height memory function
Keyless Access with Push-Button Start
Reverse Automatic Braking
Panoramic power moonroof
Exclusive Java Brown leather-trimmed upholstery
Heated and ventilated front seats
SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia Navigation
Harman Kardon 792-watt-equivalent 14-speaker premium audio system
Second- and third-row sun shades
