Default SC: Subaru Showdown July 21: Autocross w/ NO WORKING THE COURSE!

Hey Subaru Owners, it's that time of year again! Folger Subaru/Subaru of America is holding the Subaru Showdown at Carolina Motorsports Park on July 21ST! The event, for those who went last year, is an excellent opportunity to meet people within the Subaru and autocross communities, and enjoy your Subaru while blasting around a safe and controlled autocross course held on one of the best road courses in the South East!

The event is one day this year, but you get a lot of bang for your buck with this event. Autocross courses will be set up on both the East and West Courses of the road course (unlike last year where the West Course was an autocross and the East was a PDX), and THERE WILL BE NO WORKING THE COURSE!!! That's right! All you do is show up, and run! The CMP staff will be taking care of the course and timing so that leaves more time for car setup and socializing, with no need to stand out working the course!

This is the perfect opportunity to try out autocrossing if you are new to the sport or have been considering giving it a try, with plenty of other Subaru owners to hang out with! It provides a safe environment to take your car to the limit, or just enjoy a spirited drive dodging some cones! There will also be ride-alongs in a brand new STi, the CMP kart track will be open throughout the event with free rides being given away throughout the day and there may even be a surprise guest making an appearance!

Subaru has put forth a major effort to make this event happen, and was really pleased with the outcome last year, but we need to make the turnout even greater this year so they can keep hosting events like this in the South East, so tell everyone you know! Event cost is $60 for a minimum of three runs on each of the courses, and $68 dollars for a minimum of three runs AND a barbecue dinner Saturday night! Entrants' best times from each of the courses will be added for a combined time for the event, and this year's setup should provide an excellent day of autocross with NO COURSE WORK and tons of cool Subarus from around the South East!

Online registration is REQUIRED and can be found, along with more information, at:

www.subarushowdown.com

Tell everyone you know as we need an excellent turn out to show Subaru that the South East means business when it comes to their cars!

Feel free to post up if you have any questions, this year should be a great event! We welcome spectators of all ages!!

Josh

Tempting... Shame no PDX this year, though.

Open to any vehicle, right? And anything else going on, vendors on display, souvenirs for sale, car show...? Going to post this on the local SCCA forums if so.

There's a big group in Charleston and Myrtle Beach that AutoX. I know they're saying no novices in this, so if you want to get seat time and an introduction to AutoX so you can get in on the Showdown, there's an event in Savannah this weekend and one in Laurens, SC at the Michelin Proving Grounds (Black Lake) next weekend. Head over to http://www.scsportscar.com and introduce yourself and someone will show you around and help you get your feet wet. If you're at Black Lake, I'll be glad to help you out however I can and ride along as an instructor if you'd like.

Be warned... this may be the most addictive thing you ever try

It's a gateway drug into harder events, like track days...

What would a FXT be classed with? I'm eager to see how well the foz will autocross compared to my old wrx, but i don't want to end up last place in a class full of STi's..

Pretty sure it's DS or STX. If it goes all the way to *SP class... I'm not sure... ESP maybe?

I read about that! Unfortunately I'll be at a friend's wedding, so no AX for me. I really want to check out AMP, though. Tracks Unlimited is having an event there the 16/17 of this month. May make the drive down to watch if nothing else.

It looks to be run under SCCA rules, though not necessarily an SCCA sanction. Ridealongs will probably depend on the insurance underwriter of whomever IS sanctioning the event (CMP or Subaru). Some places, like our SCCA region, allow ridealongs for anyone that has signed the insurance waiver. Others require a rider to be a registered competitor to be covered by insurance.

Hopefully Josh can clarify soon. If not, I will beat him brutally at the AutoX on the 16th and make him come post here

If it's anything like the SCCA events, it's free to show up and ride along, but like chkltcow said, it depends on the insurance underwriter. I'll be happy to give rides to anyone who wants to see what a car with a stick axle will do

hahah sorry guys, but some more info! Ridealongs should not be a problem, and there will be an STi giving riding alongs all day as well so even if there is some complication with competitor ridealongs there will still be an opportunity to get one in in a 2012 STi! Also, the event is OPEN TO ALL MAKES! So tell all your friends so we can have an awesome turnout!

This. I've heard many great things about Black Lake! Just never made the trek down, myself.
