Late 60s. I'd love to be hanging out in New York at the Factory with Andy Warhol and Lou Reed, and checking out art shows and meeting famous artists, and doing lots of drugs, and having lots of sex, and checking out new rock and roll. Totally hedonistic and irresponsible, but that's where I'd wanna be.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind being in my early 20s in the 70s. It'd be cool to be in New York and hang out at CBGB's while punk is starting to break.

I voted present.

Because this is the best time in history for a Black man such as myself to actually do for himself and his family.
All prior decades/generations have been nothing but death, despair and sorrow.

The current leader of the 'Roaring 20's' were only roaring for White folks. My people were being hung from trees and burned alive for walking on the wrong side of the street and other such nonsense.

No way in the hell would I ever accept an opportunity to go back in time greater than my own age - 10 (23 yeras).

No political soapbox intended.
You asked for a "why" and that my reason.
BTW, women should vote similarly regardless of race as they too had it bad in the past.

i'd pick the 50's and be in a rock and roll band. then i'd engage in heavy petting in the back of my Bel Aire.

Janq,

No one can ever pay for the atrocities that man has done against each other. I believe however that Stealth was looking more romance of the era, whether it be the up and coming blues, jitterbug and harlem of the early 19th century to the current real life successes of today's black man. Would you truely feel different if you thought you could go to the 1950's with MLK Jr., Malcom X or other extremely strong characters of the era to fight for the success you have today? A bit of martyrdom but I'm just trying to help you see the romance instead of a jaded view.

Things always seem so simple in movies that take place in the 50's, so that's what I'm going on.

Janq,

What if we sent you back w/ a bodyguard?

Tough one.

1930's because I loved the way most people were cordial towards each other (minus the lenching/raping of non-whites), conversed eloquently towards one another and dressed formal in a detail oriented outfit.

1950's because I deeply enjoy the romanticism that surrounded the Doo Wop music and the last decade of female morality involving sexual intimacy and self-respect (CandyO = WHORE DIRTY WHORE PIG SLUT ANAL BLOOD CUM SECRETIONS SNUFF DIE AT THE END OF ORGASIM DURING TEH 60'S WORHOL SMOKE COCAINE IN YOUR POLLUTED VULVA YOU FEMALE HOG!!!)
Anyway, I miss the cordial dating scene with the music I mentioned, so beautiful.

However, I'm going to have to go with Brad on this one and choose the 80's since that is what I lived with. Hip Hop, Electronic Music from Germany (pre-Techno), Depeche Mode and all the other counteless New Wave, MTV (when it was actually good!!), bomb ass movies (John Hughes has teh badness!) etc.

I see your point and its a good one.
My previous answer was my honest and first thought. As for going back to live amongst the times of Medgar Evers, Emmet Till, my mothers brother whom I never met but everyone says I'm exactly like and was murdered becuase he "talked to a white girl" and many others who have not been remembered by history with holidays and streets named after them. No, I would not.
My mother and relatives aon both sides of my family were directly involved in the civil rights movement and lived through it, just barely.

There is no way I would want to go back in time to those days knowing what I know, seeing the pictures I have seen and being told the first hand accounts by the folks that were there. Hell no.
And a bodyguard or 10 would do no good in those times.

Oh, and Harlem back in the day wasn't all that the movies and Hollywood has made it out to be. My great-aunt who just died five weeks ago was born, raised and died in Harlem. The only place she ever knew. As she and my other relatives from that area of a certain age have told it for decades, things were not as it was portrayed by Eddie Murphy in 'Harlem Nights'.

I'll keep my butt right here in the present, a virtual nirvana if there ever was one. But not to be a spoil sport if I were forced to choose some other decade it would be the '80's.

'40's.

What could be better? You just conquered the world. Military surplus was EVERYWHERE. (you could buy a P-51 for $25k todays $$). Women were spreading thier legs, you could travel the world on the govt's dime, GI bill, cool homes, no TV, you still traveled with the elegance of overnight sleeper trains.

Did I watch too much "A Christmas Story"?

Ahhhhhh......the smell is amazing! The feeling is warm, wet and mildly salty and bitter with a tangy sweet aftertaste. I LOVE it, its why we are all here my friend. Sorry, but this was all that I registered from your post, and that's ok because it is the only fact that is of consequence to me.

excluding problems such war or social problems, I would choose the'30's. My dream would be to get into film noir in the begining. If we are talking about the world with social problems, I would have to choose to live in the 80's again. People dress funny now.
