A clear bra will help with chips only, the lip - hate to say, will make it lower so be even more careful once it's installed!

the lip should (hopefully) spread the load of a concentrated impact across the rest of the bumper.

I have a low profile lip so it really doesn't change the ride height.

Default cracked front bumper

AHHHHH i just did this to my 1 month old 2012 WRX!!!! This is my first Subaru and they always emphasize off roading and AWD blah blah blah. I took my off road on a flat muddy path maybe for 100 ft. After I hosed it down afterwards to get the mud off, I noticed my front bumper was cracked!! this is a rally car and my bumper just cracked! I dont even know how I did it. Sooooo bummed out cuz this is only a month old!

Yup mine cracked in the same spot today! one month old 2012. I dont even know what I hit? I was washing it and just noticed it. Started from that open clip hole and propagated upwards. Big crack now!

I'm sorry but it makes me laugh when people think that a stock wrx or even an STI is a rally car. The rally version is based off of the wrx but that's it. Here's a video of what has to be done to make our cars into a really rally/gymkhana

Yea mine cracked before I even made a payment on my 2012, an ice chunck came off a truck and broke the bumper and popped out the fog light... I reset the crack with epoxy and strips of plastic... I know the car is not suppose to be bullet proof but my rx8 bumper that sat 3" off the ground that I scraped and hit things never cracked... It is a ****ty design made out of ****ty plastic/urethane..
For those who's haven't cracked yet:
I thought it would never happen to me because I'm carful, but when it does and how easily it does will make you pissed!

Well I went out playing last night in at least a foot of snow at thirty below, half expecting to finally crack it. I think I broke off that other useless clip thing, but still no crack. I guess I just got a good one or I'm really lucky. My car was built the same month as the earthquake, maybe the radioactivity made it stronger.

I joined the club today, and mine was just me sucking at life...what a bummer.

What was involved in resetting the crack as you described? My crack is about an inch tall and probably only visible to me, so it could be worse, but i got a nice long scratch to compliment the crack...ugh.

I'm just going to get ready to replace and/or respray the front bumper, and replace the windshield every 1-2 years or so, this should keep my OCD at bay.

Haha, same here mang.

The windshield on my 09 when I had it was badly pitted and I only had it for 2.5 years, I couldn't believe it.

I have only had the 11 since August, and here I go rubbing it on a curb and leaving it with a rash and crack.

Dealership in CT quoted me 715 for a new front bumper cover painted. I told them I would reinstall it myself. I have had to take it off a couple times for hid fogs and hella horns. Not sure how easy it would be to transplant the whole fog assemblies, but it can't be that bad.

I just made sure the the crack layed even again cut a couple strips of plastic( the lid to a tote, probably not the stongest) got bondo bumper repair adhesive from autozone.. mixed the two parts and applied it to the inside of the bumper and put some of the adhesive to the strips and layed them perpendicular to the crack... I plan on getting a lip in the spring, this will do a better job by dispursing the load if an impact occurs...

Good stuff, I will probably want to reinforce it from the inside as well.

What do you suggest for bumper rash? I have the 2 or 3 stage swp touch up paint from subie, but should I sand down the edges of the scrape before i touch it up? I am curious how mild a sandpaper I should use if so.

This. Especially in the DMV area. The construction here never stops.

Bought my car (2011 wrx limited hatch) 1/31/12 (obsidian black pearl). Saw a cracked foglight and notified the dealer. I took the car the way it was an dthey ordered a new fog light lens. After having the car a couple days, I noticed a crack in the bumper on the driver's side right under the foglight (same damn spot as everyone else). I recently took it to the dealer to have them change the lens and the whole foglight housing was cracked behind it so they ordered me a new one. Knowing all of this, and seeing the scrapes on the underside of the bumper (from the past owner), do you guys think Suabru will do anything?

Thanks, credit to northpolerex for the stitches. What kills me is I miraculously found that little piece the next day, then my dumb ass epoxied it back on and tore it off again and lost it for good.

I have a crack in my drivers side. I've never hit a parking block or curb, it's just cracked. For now it's only on the under side, I'm going to try and repair it so it doesn't get worse. What's a good epoxy for this application?

I sprayed a bunch of that new rubber sealant in a can all up inside the bottom of the front bumper while changing my oil this weekend. I originally wanted the stuff called Flex Seal as seen on TV. Home Depot had this similar stuff by either Krylon or DupliColor... I forget the brand. I also sprayed a strip on the underside where a lip would go. Maybe this will preemptively prevent. I feel a little better.
