I'm going to Bryce tomorrow. And Snowshoe for Memorial day weekend. Let me know when you're going to Snowshoe, I own a place there so maybe you could stay there if it's available.

As far as May 31 or June 1. Bryce might be possible. My brother wanted to do something that weekend as well and Bryce was on the list.

Good ride yesterday with AJ. WE went to Meadowood in hopes that the new wooden feature trail was open, but it's still a long way off. It's going to be pretty nuts when its done though.

I think we're planning to hit Fountainhead tomorrow around 4:30 if anyone wants to, and can, make it.

I'll be there around 2:30-2:45ish, since I'm working up off McLearen BLVD tomorrow and possibly Wednesday. I'll likely ride through Green and Blue and then tackle Black with mav1c, if he's feeling up to it.

Sounds like people have gone in over their head on the new trail, so I'm all for a slow-run-through and siting lap before attempting anything close to half speed.

At least not riding 4' behind mav1c, so I have time to adjust my line when things go pear shaped.

Meadowood is better when it's dryer. When it's really wet, they close the pump trail/track section. When they finish the wooden feature section, it's going to be a lot of fun. That said, the main loop is about 3 1/2 Miles, and mostly pretty easy. It's fun, and good for a ride to get the heart pumping, but nothing too technical, and no really big climbs.

Went to Fountainhead yesterday. The new black trail is definitely expert only. Way, way more gnarly and technical than I expected. Lots of rock gardens (many of which already have lines around them ), tight turns, blind turns, banks, jumps, some decent sized drop-offs (most you have to actually take fairly slow, or you'll over-shoot the landing), and some big tabletops (the last one has a really steep landing).

I ate crap over one of the jumps. I didn't know where I was going and drifted left over the jump. Well, there was a big dirt bank to left, so my front wheel dug in, I went flying over the bars, and face first into the bank. Now I look like I was in a bar fight with all the scrapes and bruises on my forehead and nose. On the bright side, it was just dirt, and just a little further there where a whole bunch of rocks.

AJ rode great. I'd never seen him do any of the drop-offs, but he did almost all of them. So much advancement since that first time at Fountainhead. Kudos.

Riding Fountainhead Saturday morning. Your story has me excited, haha. I took about 5 spills at Bryce last weekend. That table after the creek gap is fully commit or die style.

I used to have no problem riding Fountainhead alone. Now, maybe not. At least not the black section. And oh yeah, doing the full loop is now ~12.3 miles.

Ride the new Black trail at Fountainhead with a buddy or two for the first few sessions. And take it slowly. As mav1c mentioned, there is a LOT of blind stuff and tricky sections.

And the drops don't need nearly as much speed as you think. The Blue trail drop gets lots of speed from the previous downhill part. The Black drops don't have hills before them, and most have features to slow you down a bit. I think it was done on purpose. You basically roll off the end and you are fine. I had a bit too much speed on the 2nd drop and nearly ended up in the flat.

With a few more rides, I may venture out there on my own. Lots of awesome technical features not found on the previous trail.

Green and Blue will provide a good workout and challenge for newer riders. Nothing on either of those trails that can't be taken or ridden around.

If I ddidn't have a race on Saturday, I'd join you. The trails are a blast to ride.

Found out I snapped a spoke on the rear wheel. Would not have been able to fix it in time to meet you guys, along with changing the chain and cassette to new equipment.

Now to start calling all the local "shops" and seeing if they have spokes in stock.

Anthony and I both said, if anyone could really utilize a drivetrain upgrade, you could.

Once they stop producing 3x9 setups, I'll likely switch the FS over to something else. Until then, I'm perfectly happy haping $14 for a chain and $25 for a cassette, and $75 for a chainring set.

And because I have zero idea what size spokes are used on that rear wheel, I'm going to have to bring it somewhere to get the work done. Luckily the weather looks like crap, so hopefully I can get a quick turn around on the work and get back to riding.

I am entirely unsure when this might have happened. Mother's Day Mauler race at McKeldin? The drops at Fountainhead? Woodstock Wrecker race this last Saturday? I am entirely unsure. But it is a nice Stan's rim laced to a Chris King hub that the bike's previous owner put together, so I'd rather not replace it. It has served me well for 1300 miles, so I can't complain too loudly.

Sorry I missed you. I went out there about 2:00. Did the entire loop. Man it's long now. It took me two hours. Some nice features on the black loop. Too bad it's totally in main back of the trail system, and you have to survive a bunch of dumb uphill rock gardens as well.

I crashed on the double toward the beginning of the Black Section, the one with a wooden berm to set you up. Well it's not designed right and you need to rail the wooden berm to have enough speed, but if you actually go for the jump it lands you off the right side of the trail into the hill. Thats what happend to me. To land it you'd have to rail the wooden berm then make your way to the right side of the trail then turn left into the jump. I'll have to analyze it next time i'm there to see if that easily doable.

You can ride with one broken spoke. NO big deal. Just zip tie it out of the way. To fix, remove one one of the spokes on the same side and take it to a bike shop and get one the same size. If you don't want to do that you can plug in the specs of your rim and hub into a spoke length calculator to get the size.

Saw a lot of Subaru's at Fountainhead today, too bad I didn't drive there with mine. Hard to tell who drives what when out on the trail though, haha.
