Default 225x45 or 215x45 with 17" rims

I'm thinking of upgrading to 17" or 18" rims and I'm concerned that the tires will rub against the wheel wells.

I plan to lower the car by 1" in the future.

What tires should I get (215 or 225) without rubbing the wheel wells?

Thanks..

I've got a '02 Blue wrx with the stock set of wheels/tires.

225s fit the WRX just fine.

Default 225's may be too much

I've got my Rex lowered 1" via MTR springs. Running 225 x 16" ties on oem rims.
While the grip has been life-changing (live in swithcback mountains), if I lived a strait-line existance I would get a 215 . I traded staight-line speed for roadhoding. My car doesn't have the get-up-and go of the OEM tires. YMMV

225/45/17's are working real well on my car...but 215/45/17's will do the trick too. make sure your offset is 50-48mm on the wheels...no wider than 7.5inches just to be safe. mine are 52mm offset.

Well, I would suggest to always go with 7.5" rims even if you go 215s. Some has fit even 245s into WRX, but of course a lot of work is needed to ensure they don't rub. 215s and 225s are pretty safe for a WRX. And depends on your taste, 235s might in order as well....
