yeah guess that does make sense. i wasn't really thinking and i guess that no matter where it plumbs back in that if the UP/EWG is leaking it would throw off wideband readings regardless.

Well, it's all in how you drive. I guess I was measuring the tread life as to how I'd drive 'em.

I blew threw my set of Dunlop Z1's in 6 months, but I also did 2 track days, and 6 autocrosses (most with 2 or 3 drivers), and probably 5k road miles. So they *could* last 2 summers if you restrained yourself.

I had to read this a few times, did you mean "is any different"?

I was just looking through some old pics and I found one of the swap from when I originally bought it in 2002. It sure has changed over the years...

I bought the BFG KDW last year. They handle great in the rain and dry weather. I am going to get at least one more summer from them. Maybe 3 summers total

Dave, you might be interested in these as well( AME Tracer TM-02), they are manufactured by Enkie for AME.

"The name of the wheel "TM-02***8243; stands for Tracer M.A.T. Version II. These wheels are made using Enkei's proven proprietary M.A.T. wheel forming process. which improves the material properties of the wheel and its overall performance characteristics."

I just found this... 18X9.5 38 off set Rota Grids.... Not Enkie or Work but still impressive

Wind knocked out power at work. Got a 730 phone call telling me to stay home. w00t!

Got an oil issue, anyone with ideas would be helpful. Please don't turn this into an oil-brand discussion if you don't like Royal Purple, it's not the cause, and I'm not changing to a different oil.

Here's what I've got:

Until I saw goixiz's post on the Saab forums about the oil pickup tube going bad on the 05's, I was pretty sure I need a new gauge.

Symptoms:

Over about 2 weeks my oil pressure dropped from 80-90 during cruise to 50-60. Idle is around 20 instead of 30-40.

These are consistent with the minimums specified pressures for the turbo 2.0, but are way below the observed norm.

Oil:

Royal Purple 5W30. Switched in the fall from Royal Purple 10W40. Been running RP since about 35k miles. At 68k now.

Gauge:

Prosport Oil Pressure, standard resistive sensor, mounted in galley plug near turbo outlet.

Other observations:

No engine noise. In fact, since switching to RP, this is the quietest Suby motor I've ever heard. Pressure seems to come back up into the 70's as the outside temperature rises. (it's been in the teens for weeks, but just this week it was into the 50's and even 60's for a day).

Mods: 2.0L WRX (saabaru) Full headerback catless exhaust, modded stock injectors, modified stock turbo, full silicone intake piping, cold air, large tmic, sti fuel pump,

Car runs perfect, no symptoms other than gauge reading. Checked oil levels and even changed oil. Taking it easy until problem is sorted out.

Any smart guys with input? Links may be helpful as well.

I really hope you meant to quote me. And if so, I hope it works out, that's a beautiful ass car. I actually looked into what would be involved with me getting a loan for that until I sold the explorer.

lol. Way to be hard headed.

"I'M NOT WRONG, BUT PLEASE GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS!"

I'm not saying you're incorrect, but prefacing your story with that sorta deletes your credibility...

Anyways, sounds like your oil is broken. Oil is always thicker when it's cold, which drives pressures up, not down.

Wind knocked out the power here in the north hills all night. Well just my neighborhood, I was driving home late last night, knowing I didn't have any power at home, as I'm getting close, every surrounding neighborhood has power, except mine

I plan on taking a $1k deposit over tomorrow to hold the car for a few days while I sort the money.

damn, Jimmys on a roll! thanks for filling in for me buddy!

but my RT615s are going to be on their 3rd summer now. track day, plenty autocrosses, lots of drag launches... not like i'm easy on my car... should last this summer just fine too. course i only have ~ 7k miles on it in that time. prolly only 4-5 on the falkens yeah. so? 5k is pretty good mileage for a set of tires.. for me!

haven't even had it aligned. just 0 toe all around, lots of -camber in the back and not a whole lot up front. wish i had more -camber up front.

so Dave, does this mean nofix the wagon? and insurance and ttitle stuff is settled already? i call the 2.5l you're yanking out!!!

Obviously you don't know me too well. . . I'm just trying to avoid the side-discussion which has nothing to do with my current issue. If you've got no input, feel free to skip my posts. Looking for actual help with the pressure issue. It's definitely not the oil. I've run this oil for 35k+ miles and the problem started 2 weeks ago, not when I first started using this oil 2 years ago.

So why do you offer up that information if you know it's gonna cause conflict?

Do you walk into Steelers bars wearing Ravens jerseys too?

Anyways, check your gauges. If the change in pressure is consistent throughout, it's probably a sensor/gauge issue.

jesse, i think it's your pump. or the bypass spring sticking.
which COULD be a symptom of the oil.
i'd run an oil heavy with detergents for a few hundred miles, see if it changes back. then go back to your regular schedule knowing full well that the RP is not as good detergentwise.

also, try adding one of those packets of engine break in additive. they have lots of stuff good for engines. whatever you're doing, get the oil in it when it started, analyzed.

Jesse, when my bearings went I initially noticed a really low oil pressure at idle. It was easy to confirm by cutting open the oil filter and unfolding it - shiny flakes everywhere.

The oil pickup is definitely a problem on some Subarus. There are a few very large threads about people who destroyed their motors because the pickup broke and they suffered oil starvation. Maybe you have a hairline crack in yours? Easy to check, just drain the oil and borrow my harbor freight bore scope to take a look into the pan!

Couldn't hurt to send some of your recently changed oil out to blackstone for analysis.

Also, you might want to check your gauge, maybe something is blocking the sender? I have an extra one you can borrow to compare pressure if you want.

wagon is nofix. The shallow reason is I don't want to dick around with all the red tape doing a rebuild. The true reason is I've been lusting after swapped GCs ever since they started popping up in the US. I have a perfect swap donor. A fully running forged internal WRX that will be paid off and will require a few grand in parts to fix anyways. Why not take advantage of that? I wasn't going to move this quick, but dammit this jerk has to go and post the EXACT car I'm looing for. 2-door RS, 99-01 body, rally blue pearl, in pittsburgh, and good price. I just can't pass this up. It shall be mine.

On my way to the bank right now.

Can't believe I'm already buying ANOTHER car... this is absurd. I'll have 3 imprezas in my driveway. Oh well. At least this one isn't platinum silver like the other two.

I'd check the pressure with a real diagnostic gauge before I do anything else. Aftermarket gauges and sending hardware are suspect...
