Default Interesting/Semi-Interesting ways that you've quit a job?

Mine isn't terribly interesting, but I'm betting there are some good ones on here. I was working at E Trade during the tech slowdown a few years ago. I was laid off, so I needed to do something in the interim. I was working in tech support, helping retarded customers navigate their accounts, and other mundane/mindless tasks.

Anyway, they had scheduled lunches, and if you came in more than 1 minute late, you could be written up. There was no dipping out an hour early on Friday either, no perks at all really. Nevermind that I was handling 40% more call volume than the best employee that they had, also at a 95% QC rating. Most websites were blocked, and no streaming audio. No IM, and no external email (because of all the tards that got virus infestations).

Yeah, it was a temporary job to pay the bills. They started going "code red", and instituting 1/2 hour lunch breaks. Well, my Porsche broke down and I had to bring it into the shop. The manager was like, there's a Merchants Auto and other garages right down the street, you don't need to take a half day vacation to bring it to the dealer. What a tard.

So, the next morning I woke up, and decided that I just didn't feel like working there anymore, Office Space style.

We''ve done this before, but ok:

My first job when I moved here lasted about 2 weeks and it was at a hardee's within walking distance. Here's how I qiut: I rolled up to the drive-thru window tripping my ass off on acid, my car piled up with 4 other friends tripping too, tossed my uniform in the drive-thru window and yelled, 'Tell Mr Cobb I quit!" as I sped away, blasting the stereo.

I used to work at my local A&P grocery store, in the produce department. We had these large chalkboard signs that some local wannabe-Rembrandt drew a bunch of different fruits and veggies on. She used to **** herself lifeless whenever someone even touched one.

The day I quit, I lined them all up and gave them a thorough washing with a hose.

I was working two jobs at the time. One was a decent office job and the other was at a bookstore. I kept on showing up late to the bookstore job because it was after working in the office all day. One day my manager called me back to his office and confronted me about this and gave me a couple options:
a) Change my hours to I can get there on time.
or
b) start showing up on time.

I chose:
c) I'm just not going to come to work anymore.

I made up option C and told him "I think I'm just not going to come in anymore.".

After that he was kind of shocked and told me I would need to fill out a resignation form if that's what I wanted to do. I got the form and in the "When Effect" field I put immediately and walked out.

He thought I meant 2 weeks or something.

He tried to lecture me when I came back to get my check the following week.

I did the F- you, F- you, F- you, You're cool, F- you at my last job, but only because the Senior Management had always had a problem with me, and I knew I wouldn't get a good recommendation anyway...

This was after they fired 3 out of the 5 people in my dept. and wanted me to be all of their replacement...oh, and the Eastern Sales Manager on top of it all (was not even in the sales dept. at the time!)

I don't recommend this exit strategy, however, it was infinitely gratifying...

I onced worked in a small, outdoor snack bar in a very expensive country club. It was basically me and one of my good friends and we cooked burgers and such in a small enclosure by the pool....most of the time we played whiffle ball and spent our time tweaking out golf carts......

Anyway, we had a tournament one day, which means there were TONS of people there. We closed down the snack bar for a day and set up a huge grill out by the green. We had a line of about 100 people waiting for food when we decided we didn't want to work there anymore, so we just turned off the grill and walked away....with the entire line of people just standing there...and the line growing.

We then went on vacation for a week.

Best/funniest part: Our boss called us when we got back and asked us to come back to work .....got fired two weeks later for off-roading golf carts

I told this the last time this was asked....

I got a new job offer a week before my annual review and raise.

Decided I'd wait until after the review to quit.

My manager tells me all the good stuff...top performer, A rating, a promotion, and I get a 2% raise (after no raise the previous year).

I just chuckled, and said, "Well, now I don't feel so bad about this...I found another job, I'm quitting."

I tried to get fired from this job so hard it wasn't funny. I start at 8, but haven't been in before 9.30 for SIX MONTHS. Not even a verbal warning. I cancelled a critical trip to Chile 48hrs before leaving because I couldn't be arsed with it. Nothing.

So finally I quit properly last week.

So far they've offered me transfers to China, London, Chicago, Miami, Toronto to keep me in the organisation.

Just let me leave, dammit!!!!!!

Yeah, especially in consulting...and he expected me to be happy about it.

Of course he had also expected me to kiss his ass the previous year when I didn't get a pay cut like most of the other employees, because I "didn't make enough."

The best part was a partner called later that week, asking what it would take to get me to change my mind. I told him the new job was a 25% raise and no travel (current job was 100% travel). He kind of stuttered for a bit, then said that he knew he wouldn't be able to match that, but he'd see what he could get for me if I wanted. I told him not to bother.

I took a temporary position as a resturant/bar manager to allow me the daytime to network and find a real job. I knew it would take a while to get what I wanted...but it turned into a year before I knew it. I decided that I needed to make a move before I gave in and accepted my fate in the resturant industry.

Since I had some vacation accrued I took a chance going to work for a good friend, I figured that I would get vacation pay and just go back in after the 2 weeks and quit properly. About 2 days into the vacation/new job the resturant calls and needs me bad...the regional manager calls my cell and since I had no desire to lose the cavation pay I kind of lied and told him I could not return because I was caring for a sick relative.

About a week later the HR department calls and says they have papers for me to sign, I figure I am fired and head over to make it final... I get to HR and the papers are Family Medical Leave Act papers(???) The friendly HR lady helps me fill them out and I go on my way.

Thanks to Bill Clinton (he signed the bill) I get paid my salary for the next 8 weeks plus my vacation and other unused time... I finally get a packet from HR telling me that I had used all my benifits and if I did not return to work by the following Monday I would be suspended without pay.

I called my boss that Monday and told him I could not believe how heartless he was, I expected him to scream at me but we had 2 minutes of silence and then I told him I did not feel that I could work for a company that just didn't care, and that I would not be returning.

I ended up with 10 1/2 weeks of salary and an apology letter from my boss (?) for not being as compassionate as he should have been.
I still wonder to this day if he ever figured out that I simply quit and went to work elsewhere, and that his legal fearing HR department turned my excuse into a real payday.
