Rally Stuff 2012 WDCR SCCA RallyCross - Final event this Sunday, 11/11/2012!

All events held at Summit Point Motorsports Park in Summit Point, WV.

March 18 - Event #1
April 21 - Test 'n Tune / Driver's School
April 22 - Event #2
May 20 - Event #3
June 9 - 10 - Regional Event #4
September 8 - Test 'n Tune / Driver's School
September 9 - Event #5
October 14 - Event #6
November 11 - Event #7

All events are on Sundays this year except for the Saturday driver's school / test 'n tune (your pick) events in April and September and the June 2-day event.

The driver's schools are excellent ways for new drivers to come out and get a taste of rallycross without the pressure of competition. You get a TON of seat time for cheap ($30).

So I'm looking at the 2012 Rulebook and changes and I see this

Quote:
2. Allowing scoops and wings in Prepared Categories:
6.2.D.20. Addition of rear wings and hood scoops/vents is allowed provided that either
1) it is a production part which is standard or optional equipment of a US model of the
vehicle or 2) it is listed in the vehicle manufacturer's US accessory catalog for that
vehicle for normal highway use. Parts must be installed as directed by the
manufacturer. Exact replicas (including weight) from alternate sources are also
permitted.
What motivated this change? What about in stock class? Is the addition of a non (US) OE spoiler allowed?

Is this going to push Roberto and Margarita into MA? *hopefully that doesn't sound like I'm throwing them under the bus. They're fast and will do just fine in MA*

I always thought that the wing entered rule #5 that Shawn quoted....

My wing is a cheap replica that weighs 3 times more than the original one. I just kept it so the car would be a little different than the other two blue RSs.

What? I have a trophy??

I have been out for a month on visiting my family, so I unfortunately missed the award ceremony. (I was hoping somebody would have posted pictures though....) I had no clue.

Let me know when is a good time for you.

Thanks

Somebody proposed it and the powers that be (National rallyx board) liked it enough to approve it.

Stock class rules about scoops and wings have not changed from 2011. The only thing that might allow the addition of a non US OE spoiler in stock would be section 5 of the stock rules.
Quote:
6.2.C.5. Dress-up and convenience items which do not give a performance advantage, reduce the weight of the car, or weigh less than the replaced standard part they are replacing are allowed (i.e. shift knobs, pedal covers).
I am not sure if spoilers fall into that group but it is the only rule I see that might make them legal.

It is just MA for 2012 to align all the All wheel drive classes with the same letter since they now have F and R for modified also instead of just M2.

Good, this gives me a timetable to work with. So I have 2 months to get the car 100% ready

I hope you guys can handle the fact that you'll look EXTRA fast when compared to what I'll be driving, lol...

But I will crush you on wheel gap, that is a 100% lock.

I just don't see the use of a spoiler in stock or prepared useful. I'd rather save the weight. So it's MA instead of M4 this year?

Thanks Shawn!!!

BTW, does anyone know (I assume they are) if cages are legal on VA streets? Will I have trouble come my Safety inspection with the inspector? How about if I remove my airbags (from a 95 Impreza L). I assume they won't let me remove the airbags, but I thought I would check.

If your car came with airbags it has to have them to pass safety.
Though if the airbags were removed and airbag light disabled I'm not sure how they would know....
Is your '95 OBD I or OBD II?

Airbags or auto seatbelts (Passive restraint system) have been required for the drivers side since the 1990 model year.

Passenger side has been required since they switched to the depowered bags in 1998.

So in other words, I have to keep the drivers airbag, but not the passengers

I'm pretty sure the letter of the law requires you to have all airbags intact.

http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Safety.sh...pectionProgram
Quote:
20. - INSPECT AIR BAG AND AIRBAG READINESS LIGHT FOR:
  • Any defects in the air bag system noted by the air bag readiness light, or otherwise indicated; or The air bag has been deployed and has not been replaced (and is not deactivated because of a medical or other exemption and a notice is posted to indicate that it has been deactivated); or Any part of the air bag system has been removed from the vehicle; or
  • If the air bag indicator fails to light, or stays on continuously.
But again, how are they going to know (especially on an OBD 1 car) that it's been removed unless there is some dash light warning.

My opinion though is that if you intend to street drive the car it's worthwhile to keep them in. The weight savings isn't that much.

You need to pass a basic safety inspection.

But if you are building for stage rally (the reason for the cage?), you'll have to remove them both for that.

Does stage rally say anything about bumper beams? If they aren't required do most guys leave them on the car or take them off to save weight?

Are you back in Murrland now or just put down the pina colada briefly to post?

Not required for stage rally, but we run a full one and it probably saved us once this year at STPR (there is a video floating around somewhere).

Still in the BVI until Saturday. Mid-80s and clear today. We did a SCUBA dive this morning, then some waterskiing, about to go lay out now.

Except think RA Super Production and perhaps Production in the regionals classes requires whatever the car was equipped with.
