where to get stereo installed in houston, and where to put amps in wagon?
Can anyone recommend a good local installer?
Or which speakers I should put in the doors? Or where to mount amps in a wagon? I have one amp and 2 subs, that are slim so I plan to mount them right on top of the spare basically. I am going to cut out that bottom tray to fit them in. But amps..? I dunno where they will go.

what size subs?
Are they free-air? The spare well does not make a good enclose. You can however make a nice enclosure that fits in your spare tire. If you have free-air subs (or subs with smallish magnets and are shallow), you can get away with no enclosure, but I suggest a stiffer baffle (part you actually screw the subs to) than just the wheel well door alone. |

to make a free air (infinite baffle) setup work you need to totally separate the front of the woofer from the back. for all practical matters you'd need to have a trunk of some type, just throwing it in the spare tirewell attached to a baffle wouldnt work very well. youll need to make some sort of sealed enclosure for your subs.

i can install it
put the amps under the seats as far as the speakers go, two will shake your insides. i have one in a band pass style box and it will give you a headache. the wagons are set up nice for the sound. |

I've got my amp mounted to the underside of the spare tire cover, running two 8" subs in slim boxes on long wires so I can move them around depending on what I'm carrying. Good luck

"Or which speakers I should put in the doors?"
You can mount 6-1/2" speakers in the front doors...5-1/4" in the rears. I used spacers from www.iaperformance.com to install the front speakers, and dremeled the rear cutouts to accept the 5-1/4" speakers. Pretty easy, really... " mounted my amp on the back of the rear seat." I'm going to mount mine on the back of the driver's side back seat, myself. I have a 400W amp to drive the door speakers, and a 240W mono amp for a sub. I'm hoping they'll both fit on one seatback. I'm thinking of using some 1" spacers to keep the amps off the seat itself. I figure that'll give me some room to hide the wiring, too. I also need to figure out a good place to mount a 10-disk CD changer. I want a small sub...like an 8", perhaps. I mostly listen to Jazz...so, I'm not looking for a "thumper" sub. I've been entertaining the idea of buying an 8" Bazooka Bass Tube, and hanging it off my rear strut brace. I can have a couple of aluminum clamps made to secure it solidly. Any comments? Suggestions? |

You might want to consider what I did.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=175558 I still like it a lot. Bass guitars and kettle drums come alive, without whumpa, whumpa, whump. |

I would recommend not getting the Bazooka tube, I find them boomy, which is not good for the precise drums of Jazz music.
I think a nice 10" sub with a .88 ft3 box would do nice in your situation. I would recommend the Polk/Momo 10", but that's just because I have the 12" and absolutely love it. Accurate, tight, hits hard, no boom. |

I have a basslink
http://www.epinions.com/Infinity_10_...m__Subwoofers_ it is a 10" sub, 10" passive radiator with a 200W amp, for someone like myself who wanted good quality, good value and to not have to do a lot of cutting and gluing, it is an excelent value. I mounted it on the back of the passenger back seat so I have full trunk space, and can access my spare tire with ease. if you are considering an all included type thing, like a bazooka, or other options, this is probably the best solution, it is a bit bigger than most, but the quality of the product and the quality of the sound cannot be rivaled by competing products. if you are happy with getting speakers, an amp and building an enclosure, you will probably not consider this, but for someone like myself who just wants good quality for a good price and a small footprint. I couldn't pass it up |

I've got a 10disc changer mounted under the passenger seat. It's facing the rear seats so changing the cassette is easy.

hahahaa my thread WAS hijacked. Seriously though good info anyway.
So I can mount the amps on the seats and heat is not a problem?? Right now I have 2 JL audio 8" subs in slim enclosures, and a 360 watt amp to power them. I am basically going to cut out room for them in the rear "tray" as I call it and lay them flat. This will be enough bass for me!! So I am going to buy front components and rear speakers and a 4 ch amp to drive them. Just wasn't sure where to put the amps. Under the front seats would be hidden, will it be a noticeable loss in quality due to the longer speaker wire to the subs? Any recommendations on brand of door speakers that are a good cross between price and quality? I want it to sound clear. I have a set of pioneer 5 1/4" how important are the rear speakers anyway do they even do much for the sound? If these are amped I think they may be good enough. But I want nice front components. I am also considering just throwing in a deck with a screen so I can do it all at once!! Damn are they ever expensive though. |

What type of head unit do you have?
I believe a great head unit powering the in cab speakers sound better than the Subaru factory head unit with aftermarket amp powering the in cab speakers. Plus hook-up and control can be made very convienient with the right head unit. As I posted in another thread ... "See my post here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho...mp;pagenumber=2 Here's one on ebay now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...;category=50558 My system includes this unit with stock WRX rear speaker and Poineer 6.5" components in front, all run by the head unit. In the trunk is a sealed box 12" sub with an old Rockford Fosgate amp mounted on the side. It's not very heavy. And I can remove it in less than 5 minutes for Auto-X. Remember, satisfying sound doesn't have to cost big bucks. It all depends on you goals. Spend good money on your head unit. Depending on how loud you plan to listen to your music when determining the other components of your system. Your rear speakers are the least important. Unless you plan to amplify the rears, stock WRX rear speakers will do well enough." |

THANKS!
So I will use the pioneer 5 1/4 since they are new and I have them, they must be better than the stockers. I was debating head unit vs none,I guess I might as well get a new one and do it right though. Maybe I can get away without an amp to drive the 4 in cab speakers, that would certainly save me some cash. For some reason, I cannot load either of those links!! |

I spent Saturday installing a Pioneer Premier 560 (50w x 4) MP3 player and a set of 6.5 Boston Acoustics NX67 in the front and 5.25 NX67's in the rear. I used the stock wiring and just got a Subaru stereo harness. Also had to get a set of 1" spacers for the front doors $20 (Nobody but Mobile1 had them). 1/2 inches spacers would have worked but 1" worked too and still fit under the door skin no problem. It sounds alot better than my buddies stock Subaru sound system and I get a remote control, MP3 player, and a cool display.
Now I'm just hoping the Easter Bunny brings me an amp and sub(s) but I'm not going to hold my breath. |

I can agree with the Boston NX67's I put them in the front , and they are awesome...they WILL fit in the front (2004 STI) with a half inch spacer..and some inside dremel work on the door panel which takes 5 mins...should take 30 mins a side to install...they sound great with my Alpine 9815 Head unit...as for the back ..Iput in 5 1/4 discus MB quart ...with NO spacer goes right in NO prob...Also buy the dynamat speaker kit ....

well I ordered some JL audio xr6.5's... anyone know which sized spacer I need for these speakers specifically?
also, will the wiring harness on iaperformance work for basically any deck? I am going with "matt's" setup, with the LCD in the stock location and the deck in the oem gauge pod. where do I get a dynamat speaker kit? |

Buy the "Brown Bread" from these guys. It's BETTER and CHEAPER than Dynamat...
http://www.b-quiet.com/ Also, e-mail the guys at iaperformance and tell them what speakers you want to mount. They'll tell you which specer to use. They can also answer your question about the wiring harnesses. Richard |

Every comparison article I read on the 'Net showed the Brown Bread to be superior to Dynamat...which is why I made that statement. |
