Compression test results & Looking for advice
Well, did a compression test today on my bugeye. It was easy and a PITA at the same time haha. I feel my results are real low, but even wear.
I have NO CELs. Car runs fine, I may have an exhaust leak. and my upper radio hose leaks due to worn out clamp. Cylinder 2: 105PSI Cylinder 4: 110PSI Cylinder 1: 110PSI Cylinder 3: 105PSI I took everything off that I could prior to warming the engine, working up against the Valve Cover sucked haha. Upon removal of the coil pack on Cylinder 2 there was a small amount of oil on the edge of the pack. Spark plug looked fine, so maybe not a huge issue. As i mentioned, I feel my compression is LOW. Maybe an OEM rebuild? this is a fun weekend car/project. The motor has 134K. So, what would you guys do? Funds are limited, maybe new gaskets all around and have the motor cleaned? Just looking for advice, thanks.

Probably leaking valve guides or seats if it runs fine save your money and do a rebuild when you feel it’s really needed or if you don’t love the car that much just sell it now or drive until it blows up
Your looking at a couple grand for a proper OEM parts rebuild and then you still have a 130k mile body and worn out everything else perhaps |

Was the throttle held wide open during the test? Was pressure still building when cranking was stopped? Better fix that before you lose too many stations. |

I think you have a GAUGE issue. It's either leaking or not accurate. Is this the first time using this gauge or checking this car?
Your numbers are too close too be a real engine issue. Rings can wear evenly over time but your mileage is still too low for those numbers. You should be going thru a lot of oil too. Valve and ringland issues would only show in one or two cylinders and they would almost never be the same. I would do another test with a different gauge before throwing money into it. Video the gauge while testing. I due 10 cranks but see peak numbers at 6 to 7 cranks. |
